Junior threw 4 innings giving up one run and Freshman came in and threw 3 innings giving up 0. Deer Park managed to score 3 in the process.

LaPorte vs Humble Atosicita:
Humble: Senior threw 4 innings giving up 0 and Freshman came in and threw 2 innings giving up 0. The Junior catcher and Alabama recruit for Humble hit 2 run homer off of Junior A&M recruit from La Porte. Humble won 5-0. Atosicita is my sleeper pick this year. They have ALOT of talent on that roster and a VERY good coach if you ask me.

Heard from a little birdie that Freshman from Pearland "Cadillac" went deep last night opposite field. Pearland is going to give everyone all they can handle with the lineup the coach has been running out on the field so far. Don't know any other specifics. Plan on watching them play next.

Hey Coach, Sounds like Pearland may be developing into what everyone has been thinking (the team to beat in 5A this year) I have felt all along with their pitcher, the addition of the transfer catcher, and their battery of hitters they will be tough to beat. If the hitting is there with the pitcher they have the sky may be the limit for them.

Coach, you think Deer Park is developing a 1-2 punch with their Junior (is this their #1) and their Freshman Pitchers? You had said in an earlier quote you felt the Freshman could be the #2 pitcher. Or is it too early to tell if the Freshman can handle the pressure and be consistant from game to game. No one knows much about her.

Who do you feel can honestly compete with Pearland this year, with all the weapons they appear to have??? I know Deer Park is rated high, just because they are reigning State champs, but alot feel they may not do much this year because of the loss of their Pitcher to graduation.

They are going to be one of the top teams from the Houston area no doubt (Pearland). What I was saying is you need two pitchers in case one has bad day and you need the other. Your ace doesn't need to throw every game and she definitely doesn't need to throw a double header in the playoffs. The hitter's in the playoffs are your better hitter's and if you see ANY pitcher that many times the odds are shifting to the hitter. The freshman will be fine she is a freshman. NO freshman is expected to come into a high school program and hold the torch; that's the responsibility of your upper classmen it's their turn and if you don't have that you’re not going far in the playoffs. She will get her turn because she is a BIG left handed kid that throws the ball WELL; commands her off speed with PLENTY of getty up on her hard stuff. The junior pitcher pitched more innings than the senior last year and beat Alvin in 1 game playoff and beat an picked up a save against Pearland last year in the playoffs. She will do just fine but every program needs 2 pitchers unless you plan on playing one game playoffs. Just my opinion take it for what it is an OPINION. Deer Park is ranked high because they lost 1 starter from last year’s team. I will tell you this much I will be HAPPY if either of these teams win State or go deep because I know parents on both sides that I call friends. Some may not like me but some do that just comes with being a coach. The difference between being a coach and a Dad is a better seat on the bucket. The majority of the girls in the top high school programs have worked there butts off to become REALLY good ball player’s and hats off to them and there parents for putting in the time to develop their skills to where they are at. It takes things going right for your team to make it to state along with winning it.

Well stated Coach. Always respect your opinions. (which usually turn out to be correct)

I heard Foster's backup (lefty) had her arm in a sling. I'm thinking you got their #1 pitcher (righty) That kid is good. Evidence-- holding DP to one run... those DP girls know how to put runs on the board.

LCM is the team to beat in 4A, with Foster a close 2nd (with 9-10 SRs on the squad).

Good luck to all!

Both Foster pitchers are good. I would agree that the righty is slightly better but if the lefty is out, that may hurt their chances deep in the playoffs The lefty also has a big bat.

Agree with the LCM pick, not sure how many seniors they have, but since most of their team were juniors last year, it should equal the Foster squad.

At the end of all of this though, Deer Park and Pearland actually have it the roughest. I think, depending on how the brackets fall, those are the last 2 standing from region 3 no question. Region 1 however, is easily the tougher of the two. AP Americas, Coranado, Keller, Richland, Marcus, Flower Mound, Midlothian, Belton, Lewisville, Denton Ryan, Hebron, South Grand Prairie, Temple. Whoever winds up in Austin with them will be tough opponents. Let's also keep in mind that the two games Pearland/DP played in Austin were decided by 1 and 2 runs respectively. Pearland has only gotten stronger since that meeting. If somehow these two meet up before the regional final, it changes everything in a lot of ways.

On the other side, I think O'Connor is easily the clear cut favorite to come out of Region 4. Their senior IWU commit in the circle likely makes trip number 3 to the big show. So them, and someone else. Doesn't matter. Region 2 is stacked as well. The Woodlands, Keller, Plano, Mesquite Horn, Rockwall, Westlake, Lake Travis, Klein Collins, Bryan, Lufkin. It's a very, very, tough road coming out of Region 2.

Are you serious dude? Have you forgot that my kid is still in high school and I dare not say anything that would infringe on her in any way, shape or form!! Maybe you could come out on Saturday and take in a couple of games and then do your report on Pearland? Or come next Tuesday at Clear Brook for our first real game of the season.

I will say that "Cadillac" was not the only one that went yard the other night, the move in hit one that may still be going.

Mark

PS: Call me Gene and I will be brutally honest :D
If it ain't broke, why fix it??

Yeah Jasper can hit (that's what me and my dad caller her because when she was little and we didn't know her name people would say she's from Jasper) just stuck; great addition to that lineup. It will help both the A&M recruits get more pitches to hit this year. Looking forward to watching them play but it's going to rain out Saturday so maybe Tuesday @ Brook.

LOL... You mentioned Midlothian and SGP in the same sentence as Austin. The graduated alot of kids this past year. SGP has a pitcher thats about it any more. Midlothian does not even have that, unless they had an awesome freshman come in.

Not sure why you came on here picking on a couple teams, but I'll clarify. I was not suggesting that either of those two teams (or any of those I mentioned) are headed to state. You're right, Midlothian is probably the weakest of those I mentioned and I considered not naming them, but they do have a quality staff and several DI players/prospects. SGP as you mentioned has a pitcher. That can take teams a lot farther than apparently you are aware of. I notice you didn't pick on Lufkin. They graduated a lot and one might say all they have is a pitcher. Should I not have mentioned them either?

Look, my point was not to create an open forum to bash teams that you or anyone else thinks are no good. My point was that the alignment changes make what will probably be the end result a lot different than I think many expect.

For my own clarification, are you saying SGP has no shot at coming out of Region 1 or are you just mad at me because I didn't mention Mansfield?
