Keep it reasonable.

There will be no great gun confiscation-

besides the second amendment issues, there are huge fourth ammendment issues

There should be a review of gun laws(what's working , what's not etcc) on a a somewhat regular basis. We should also always look at what is appropriate for personal use (ie there is no need for a mortar, howitzer or heavy machine gun for home protection) The left needs to understand that there are responsible people that own weapons and stay within the law and treat those weapons with the repect they deserve(the vast nmajority). The gun lobby needs to understand that their are some legitimate control measures that are needed to make sure(or at least make it more difficult) for certain elements of our society to get a weapon and that not everyone who has concerns about gun ownerhip are not leftwing loonies.

18 million Americans hunted last year. That is a sizable militia. No one is taking their guns.

That my friend, is a fact. I can promise you that many of the people that live on the left - would most definitely like to have a 'great gun confiscation'.

It will start with bed-wetting liberals demonizing the gun as they already have been. For example:

3) I think as far as gun control I think there are some steps to be taken. We need to apply registration and a background check on anyone buying a firearm(there should be no gun-show exemption) I think we all can agree that it is in all of our best interests to make sure felons and the mentally incompetent can not legally buy guns. I also feel that all purchasers should be required to take a firearms safety course(perhaps led by the NRA) I also think that President must include the NRA if he wants any meaningful and useful legislation

There is no gun-show exemption now. What they are referring to is the private sale of firearms. At a gun show, there is currently a requirement of registration and background check if you are purchasing from a FFL (Federal Firearms License) dealer. If you are simply an individual buying or selling at a gun show there is no requirement, just as there is no requirement for an individual buying or selling a firearm outside of a gun show. Private individuals have no legal means or access to do the registration/background checks. Don't let their desire to ban ALL private sales of firearms mislead you. I'm not saying felons and lunatics should be able to buy firearms, but there is no way to regulate it without regulating ALL sales.

Should the all sales go through some kind of "broker" that would have such access? Would seem reasonable in an attempt to keep guns out of the hands of wackos and felons

Felons already have guns and they didn't buy them at a gun show and btw, I doubt they will register them. The Mexican drug cartel has some nice weaponry courtesy of the US government, ala Eric Holder, Obama via the Fast and Furious debacle.

I wouldn't want that. Too much government control of the means to resist tyranny. Jeez, that sounds like a right wing wacko prepper kind of statement, but I see way too many parallels today to historic instances of the rise of tyranny. Besides, you can't legislate morality. The crazies and criminals will always find a way to do their evil. I believe the best way to reduce gun violence is to have a well armed and trained populace. Criminals tend to not commit crimes where they think they will be caught or shot.

Actually Dugout many of the "illegal" guns confiscated from felons in NYC were purchased at gun shows and from private sellers- will this kind of registration keep all guns from felons etc.., of course not, but it certainly should make it harder.

Btw, guns are banned in Mexico. OOPS

Check out this murder rate chart for all countries, based on what our MSM tells us, one would think we were in the top five. No, the USA is way down the list. (you may have to click on the assending/desending rate button, the USA is at 4.2)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

Not sure I would use this...... U.S. has a higher murder rate than either Iraq or Palestine and is about 4 times greater than Western Europe(although it used to be ten times greater)

Makes the case, every Mohammed, Matloob, and Harry in Iraq and Palestine are carrying and are locked and loaded. Every criminal there knows that the people they rob will fire back.

Another example, Venezuela is also a gun free society, their murder rate is 45.1, also, Jamaica is at 52.2

Remember, the US murder rate is 4.2

Chicago, the most gun and ammo law restricted city in the U.S. has a third world murder rate of 30.
