You say that as 80% of the 14u teams play up in 16u and 16u plays up in 18u.
You say that as parents take their very good 12u pitcher and bounce them up in to 14u.
You say that as 14u teams that dont dominate in our area start trekking down to socal 5-6 times a year. (got to play the best to get better...)
The race is fueled by coaches, parents, and teams.The race will never stop and it is only getting worse.

You can stop it for YOU, by simply not being a follower of what everyone else is doing. Problem is that there are very few true leaders and masses of followers.

My point is really the culture to win has gotten ahead of the culture to build skills. Your post provides examples of that in certain cases, but it isn't really where I was going with it. There is an attitude that winning is the only measure of success, and who you beat is important. Unless you're a team where the coach can stay in the same division and that org is a big deal a lot has to go right for your team to be elite.

My point is that the culture of moving up also comes before building skills. people are so worried about winning a tournament that they fail to see the big picture, which is making sure YOUR kid is building skills and confidence EVERY weekend they play.


It is hard to do that if you are more concerned with playing up/winning every tourney.

I always tell my kids that the game is not only fun when you win. It has to also be fun when you lose.... well, if you play well and lose. But same point.

nomoresoftball - AASA Harrison is actually 100% 98's. However, 2 of those 98's were born in December (less than a month away from being 99's) so they're only 8th graders.

Too often those pretty good teams split apart too soon because they aren't winning. The best player or two go to the big dog. That team picks up kids from somewhere else. A dad starts another team. Then that pretty good team rebuilds again.

Meanwhile a good team like AASA-H had a good core and added to it and things are clicking.

What a weak comment. When you win brag about how legit your team is and when you lose talk about how young you are and make excuses. I heard the excuses start as soon as the game was over. Nobody from AASA is patting themselves on the back for beating Mizuno. The team was young and I never even heard of them. Besides, I thought the SoCal Athletics was the team that should have really been in the championship game. That team could hit like nobody’s business.

I may be shoving a foot in my mouth, but from what I read it's Nor Cal people thrashing Nor Cal people over winning a tourney? Come on really! So it would have been better that AASA-H lost to Mizuno-Y? Then people would be saying how they lost to a younger So Cal team! When you pay your entry fee you don't know who the hell is going to show up! Play ball!!!

That isn't it. Their kids didn't win so they hate on the ones that did. It's a very NorCal thing to do actually.

Like I said in my earlier post if it isn't there team then they have to hate...bottom line is that aasa Harrison played great worked hard and sometimes you just have to say congrats no excuses no well there was no good teams just tip your hat and say congrats that's it ..and don't forget that that 12s grapes another norcal team went up there and took second congrats I was following them threw some friends I have on that team great job grapes...
