by jag1 » Wed Nov 05, 2008 4:05 pm

we were looking into including the Sluggerfest tournament in our summer schedule, and was wondering what some of you thought about the tournament..? How was the competition, the fields, the scheduling, umpires, hotels...ect...? Did they inform you several days ahead of the tournament schedule..? Any input would be helpful...thanks., JG..

That is the weekend of the ASA Diamonds of the South. I would suggest very strongly that you do not waste your time or money going to the Sluggerfest. It has been going down hill over the last few years, and last year hit bottom. There were a total of 4 schools that showed up. The main fields are not bad, they do not put up temporary fencing on any field. Not very well ran, a lot of chaos last year due to the rain. Stayed 5 days to play 4 games. But the big thing, was the lack colleges and there is better competition at our tournaments here in Indiana.

I would look into:
BNGSA Firecracker
Sparks
Music City Hits
Stingrays
Tn Summer Exposure
Fast Pitch Classic - Toledo
Look for one in Indy also.

has there been a location for Diamonds of the South announced...? we are really looking to play some teams from outside of central Indiana that weekend, and contingent upon where the tournament is held, it could be a good fit..!

we are really at wits end trying to glean information from ASA..! A person could surf through their "sites" forever, and still not find any useful information..! They really should visit the NSA site and discover how easy a website CAN be to navigate.....Does anyone have a shortcut to the pertinent info for girls fastpitch in regards to ASA in the midwest..? thanks, JG...

Diamonds of the South will not pull that many out of state teams, maybe a couple! It's a State Qualifier and they cannot get a berth! You will get the same teams at EVERY ASA event trying to get a berth to nationals! I agree with the Sluggerfest opions, waste of time, no competition! The ASA National convention is going on now or about to start, should be some more news after that!

Don't expect sites for diamonds of the south to be up anytime soon.

The bookmakers in Vegas have set the over under on sites as December 20th.

Maybe your age group will get lucky and draw Stringtown as the park you play in or maybe better yet at Vincennes as they are both such quality ball parks not!!!

And even better yet in 16u this year you may have 36 teams in the qualifiers so you will get to have 8am start times on Friday as well.

Have a great weekend
