I posted my comments because I thought it was refreshing to see scores! There are some other benefits as well:

*Players and coaches will approach the game with a level of urgency because the score is recorded, showcase ball is boring and just sucks.

*It will expose the 20+ player roster teams that carry the large number for the money, not skill.

*It will expose the daddy ball teams. Many daddy coaches think that since there is no score, they can play their sub-par kid equally or more since "it's only a showcase" and everybody get's at least equal time.

*It will get players ready for the next level where the score is the only thing that matters.

ATWT lists fine reasons to post scores. Most TB coaches, players and parents care about that, talk about records, discuss ranking of teams, etc. Ageed.

My disagreement earlier is when ATWT said that college scouts won't watch a team that has 0 or 1 win on the weekend. My point is THEY don't care about scores or records. They're there to watch certain players that they've identified. They may not even be able to stay more than a few innings at a time to watch those players.

If scores become that important, you will have coaches playing and batting their best nine every game. The signed players will get then vast majority of the playing time, leaving the unsigned players not as well prepared for when the college coaches show up too see them. I don't see how that's a good thing.

Why not make every event in tournament format, if winning is all that matters?

The big picture, this was sold as a showcase, not a friendly. Where were the scouts?

It is just for them to look at and then come here and say ya but the score reverted back and we had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and my little sissie was up and she is great. I know Sussie is always good for a double with runners in scoring position so I consider that a win

On a side note: Thank you Minors Gold and Firecracker parents for hosting snack bars.
I know the day before games my wife packs a few snacks and drinks to bring, while I go to the ATM and get some sponsor money. We as a unit have always made it a point to honor those who do the work and labor to make good things happen for their girls and teams by eating.
A good weekend = games and food, and great people. oh yea,,,and competition.

I think everybody is bringing up some good points on why to and why not to post scores. I think we all agree, we need to bring back the balance. "Runs against" and "runs scored" is also a good thing TCS does that tells how teams are doing.

Worth Firecrackers went 5-0 for the weekend and I bet he played all his players. All teams should strive to have equal talent on the field and as well as on the bench. So many times I have heard, "We lost a game because a certain college coach wanted to see a certain player pitch or play SS, oh well, that's showcase ball" What does that tell you about the talent they are carrying? And a college coach was actually looking at a player that attributed to the loss? Really?

Three times I saw WFC playing, the same kid was always pitching. And the same other kid wasn't. Guess its all in the timing. Maybe?

I don't think it's about attributing a loss to a particular player, but about developing your entire team. If you have an all American SS, the kid coming up behind her isn't going to be at the same level, but if every game and AB count, the second kid probably won't see as much playing time as she needs to reach her potential.

The score also distorts reality, as there is no way of knowing if one team played and batted only their top 9, while the other team played everybody and batted 15 or 16. Maybe they should publish stats as well so we'd know apples from oranges.

If you're using scores and records, you should group like teams into the next event. Have the 5-0 teams together, the 3-2 teams together, the 0-5 teams together, etc. Then, if the scores are to be trusted, the games should be much more competitive. If its a teams first event drop them in the middle group and see which way they go.

I think maybe I did not use a very good team example But, I know if he cleared his bench, he would still probably be 5-0.
