Wildomar soccer coach arrested on suspicion of having sex with teen girl


MENIFEE - A 32-year-old Wildomar soccer coach was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of having sex with a teenage girl he coached in an American Youth Soccer Organization league.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies arrested David Charles McGregor in Perris after the parents of a 15-year-old Menifee girl discovered "inappropriate" text messages allegedly sent between their daughter's cell phone and the coach's cell phone, said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. David Barton.

McGregor engaged in sexual intercourse at the girl's Menifee home at least once in mid-October, according to sheriff's investigator Detective Glenn Johnson.

McGregor was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside. Bail was set at $25,000.

The girl's parents told police that after discovering the messages they determined that the texting had started about six months earlier when their daughter was 14, Barton said.

McGregor coached the girl's AYSO soccer team, which practiced at the Bell Mountain Middle School in Menifee.

Jill Meshekow, AYSO's human resources director, confirmed that McGregor has been a volunteer with the organization since 2006. McGregor completed AYSO's Safe Haven educational program, which is intended to help stop child abuse, educate or remove perpetrators, and screen child predators before they get into the program, Meshekow said.

Although Meshekow did not know specifics of McGregor's case and could not comment on it, she said AYSO's policy is to immediately suspend volunteers charged with such crimes until the matter has been resolved.

Let's see. We have a young lady, with those hormones, spending a lot of time with a 30-something male authority figure who has a car, money, appears to be mature, and from his years of experience, gives her the attention and says things to make her feel all grown up.

Did you not see "the look" at practice, the quick glances, the giggles, the lack of a HS boyfriend, and how she is mysteriously always on time for practice and games? And how many of these parents have gone to their daughters place of employment to discreetly meet their bosses? I'm telling you, it happens there too.

I'm starting to like the fat, old, bald coaches that played high school baseball in the 1930's more and more.

My comments weren't geared to this situation in particular. Not enough information or my job to pass judgment. In addition, and per the article, it looks like mom did do her job in snooping through the cell phone.

I'm just saying, all of us need to be aware of the many signs that stuff like this is going on instead of thinking, not my little girl.
