As a family we will be moving from San Diego to the Sacromento area soon. We have a 99 and 97 pitchter that has been playing travel for a few years now. Is there another website that is used up north? I dont see many tryouts for teams on this website like you do for down South.

HB is the best web site to look for tryouts. You can also look at DF Softball.com, get a feel for the top organizations each one has its own web page usually.

I listed these by area, but there are plenty of kids from all over the place on all of these teams. Most parents accept that there's some driving involved in finding the right spot for your kids, but it's always nice to not have to go to far several times a week.

If you'll be in the north Sac area, I would check

I'm sure I forgot lots of teams. There are lots of teams around (some say too many). As mentioned above, DFSoftball.com has a message board where most of the ads are. It will stay pretty quiet there until late October or early November. Most of the best local teams run spring tryouts in early December, typically the week after thanksgiving. If you're moving up now, I would contact teams. They won't be advertising, since most teams have rosters set, and actively searching for additional talent isn't usually fruitful once the season starts.

Minor correction,

The OBS Monarchs 16 and 18g teams are not out of Fairfield. We are basically a Stockton/Modesto area team. We actually practice in Oakdale, but have girls ranging from Reno to Hollister on our Gold team.

If you are near West Sac run as far and fast as you can. Don't let the money hungry pit known as All American Softball Inc. suck you in. After losing half of their teams this fall I could only imagine how much more they will be taking per player.
I was just talking to an Ex Mizuno parent this weekend in Lincoln and she told me when they went to Nationals last season KJ kept $2500 of the teams fund raising money and would not let them have it for Nationals. Told the parents if they returned in Fall when the Org found a coach for the team they could use the $$$ then and put it towards fall fees. Wonder where their money went since they never got the money owed and they have no team???? Probably a few Land Rover payments...

Not every org has a quality team in every age group. Teams in NorCal switch orgs so fast that the legacy list you just got is outdated. Some orgs have 3-4 teams in the same age bracket that one teams is very good, but the others are average/above average. You can't look at an Orgs name and assume all teams are the same caliber through every age group.

After reading Bruised Brain's sour comment on playing for the Capital City Comets "if you want high fees, and to not win very often", I had to wonder if BS had a bad experience once with the Comets, and has an axe to grind, or if he is only capable of just perpetuating bad info he's received. This past summer 4 of the 6 Comet teams had winning records. ML's 16U Comets, with 11 of the 15 girls being '97's or '98's, went 32 - 14, won their pool in Colorado, qualified for and played in ASA Nationals in Alabama, and had fees less than $1,000. BC's 18G Comets qualified for and played in the Premeir Nationals, and also had fees right around $1,000, which seems pretty reasonable to me. Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there are a lot of good, hard working, people in the Comet organization who wish BS would get his facts straight before misleading someone new in town with a bunch of.....bs.
