Help!! I'm hoping someone in the softball world can help me out! I have seen posts for tryouts for Team Indiana 16u and TI-Rayman. I thought Rayman was Team Indiana 16u? Now I see that Cara Johnson-Hirsch is the coach? My daughter wants to tryout but I don't know anything about this Cara person. I know, from this site, that Rayman has been to 2 national tournaments in 2 years. Can someone give me some insight into Cara's coaching?

I would STEER CLEAR of Cara Johnson-Hirsch. She is dishonest and a back-stabber. She runs a shady business and over charges players. Promises uniforms, warm-ups, etc and then keeps the excess team fees. Jeanne Rayman is a former college coach with unparalleled experience, connections and wisdom. If your daughter has an opportunity to play for her, you must. She changed my daughter's life. My daughter is now going to a Division one college on a softball scholarship because of Jeanne. Cara would never be able to network like that. She doesn't have your kids' interests at heart. TI Rayman is the way to go. Put Team Indiana out of your mind.

I will begin by saying that my daughter has never been personally coached by Cara. I will say that I know several girls that have and unfortunately never stayed for more than one season. I will also say that the stories I have heard about her coaching style are something I would not expose my daughter to. In contrast, I have only heard great things about Jeanne Rayman and the 16U teams that she coaches in terms of both coaching style and team performance. I think you already stated that Coach Rayman has made two consecutive appearances at ASA/USA nationals and has performed very well there. I don't think that the team Cara coached this year even attended a national tournament (this from aquaintances on her team). I think you will find that if you truly ask around and listen to the answers then the question of which of these 16U teams to try out for will be quite laughable. There really is no comparison from the quality of coaching, quality of experience, or quality of performance. I will be taking my daughter to the TI Rayman tryouts.

Well If you read down a few posts, you will see some parents, including myself, who's daughters have played for TI - Rayman during the last two years. Jeanne Rayman is an excellent coach who formally was associated with the organization run by Cara Johnson-Hirsch, Team Indiana. Jeanne is now forming her own team called TI (which stands for Team Integrity, btw)- Rayman. She will now longer be under the organizational logo.
If you want to play and pay a huge amount for team fees ($125+ per month) and be coaxed into taking additional lessons for which you will pay large amounts for, then Cara is your coach. If you want to be talked into paying for and playing at a"prestigious" international tournament in Taiwan where only the best players will play and compete, but then when you get there, everybody gets to play because they paid to come too. Then Cara's your coach. If you want to be laughed at by other competitive teams from the area because you play for Team Indiana, then Cara's your coach.
If your daughter wants to play in college and be recruited by a top colleges, then Jeanne Rayman is your coach. If your daughter wants to take her game to the next level and be challenged to be the best she can be, then Jeanne Rayman is your coach. When Jeanne Rayman left Butler and decided to coach travel softball, people flocked to her tryout because she was the coach, not because it was the Team Indiana tryout. My daughter played for Jeanne Rayman because it was Jeanne Rayman the coach not Team Indiana the organization. If Jeanne Rayman had not been the coach, then my daughter would not have been at the tryout because she would have accepted an offer to play with somebody else.
Do your research: Ask Ms. Johnson-Hirsch what her fees are for team fees, lessons, etc.
My daughter took hitting lessons from a current D1 coach at the rate of $40 per hour where she received top notch instruction and 100% attention for the whole 60 minutes plus. She also took pitching lessons from a current D1 coach at the rate of $35 per hour where she received one on one attention and instruction from that coach. You won't get that from Cara. You will get cage time, and yelled at and told you need to pay for more lessons because your daughter needs more lessons.

Their season was impressive to say the least. My daughter learned a ton and had a great time doing it. Jeanne Rayman was respected everywhere we went and the relationships she has in the recruiting world showed. Girls come from all over Indiana to play with Jeanne not to play for Team Indiana. I would tell anyone I know to jump all over the chance to experience this level of coaching and softball. We will follow Coach Rayman wherever she ends up because the level of success and exposure the girls have had are because of Jeanne Rayman not because of an organizational title.

I had the pleasure of having dinner with coach Rayman a few months ago, and also watched my daughter compete against her Butler University team a few years back. I agree she is a CLASS ACT!!! and knows the game inside and out!!

I really can't say anything bad about Cara, she was just a person I didn't like from the first time I met her. On the other hand, Jeanne Rayman is one of those people you do like right away. Very smart, very straight forward, and she LOVES the girls on the team. If you watch her coach you will be amazed. She is ALWAYS teaching. During the inning, after and inning, between pitches, whenever the opportunity is there... She is teaching. It's not alway about the win today, with her it's how are we going to improve to win in the long run. She has changed my daughters life in so many ways. She has made her a better person and a better player and is getting her ready for the college experience. Not sure what more you could ask for. Oh, I forgot, 2 years in a row to ASA/USA Nationals. Every player that strives to be the best should experience Jeanne Rayman. She is the best coach my daughter has ever had.

"Jeanne Rayman is a former college coach". Where was Jeanne Rayman coach?
