Ballpark behavior

True that many ballparks do not allow alcohol, but there is one in my area that has a bar in the clubhouse because they have adult league play there also. And yes they do serve beer during youth tournaments. I haven't seen any behavior there as described - that can be traced to alcohol anyway.

I don't drink at DD's tournaments. have had a beer with other families at a restaurant at the end of the day, however, so I'm not some prude speaking here. I have suspected certain parents are drinking in the ballpark, but they are discrete and behave themselves.

If I had witnessed this, I think I would have found the TD and spoke to them about what was going on, and then let them handle it.

Have you boys ever heard of Field of Dreams or Big League Dreams in Southern California. Their is at least 3 I think.

I have played and watch a lot of games at these parks, the USA team just played there last summer with about 25 other colleges. The parks have 4 to 6 maybe 8 fields. In the center of the four fields is a place to eat, drink and be marry. Beer, wine, whiskey. You can sit inside in the air conditioned room, have lunch, throw down a pitcher or six and watch all the games through the big windows.

BTW all the fields there are replicas of Major league parks, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, New York, and LAD

The mouthing off is not acceptable sober or very buzzed.
From some of the sights I have seen at the ball park it does not take booze for some parents to be azzholes!

I was thinking more along the lines that some of the AZZHOLES need to come out to the parking lot and have a couple drinks!!! Might mellow them out some!!!

The mouthing off to the other teams girls is completely unacceptable though!!!

Carsdad - And that is exactly why, I have on 2 occasions, called the park police. I am not in the position to tell who is able to drive and who isn't.

My kids were never on teams where drinking was acceptable, even between games.

It only takes one parent to ruin a good thing.

If you are reading this while sober, it is my job to inform you that your child is crushed and mortified that you are drinking. Their hearts are racing, their emotions are raw and they are so embarassed by your actions! It's bad enough that they see you drinking at home, but now you are drinking/drunk in their comfort zone. If you can't go a couple hours or an afternoon without drinking, have someone else take your child, please don't think that you aren't hurting anyone. You are hurting your child, and in my opinion, there's no crime worse than that.

What about coaches? Last year at a tournament, I saw the coaches from another team pop a few between games. I am glad my kid isn't on that team!

I am not opposed to a drink or two during a 12 hour day at the park between breaks. Getting drunk is a whole other story. You do set an example for your kids so it could be a problem, if you are drunk and a blithering idiot during tournaments you will set that example.
Of course the times have changed as to what is acceptable and what is not. When I was in little league, the coach who was too drunk to stand up in the back of the truck during the opening ceremony parade drove the truck. No one got hurt but then again they closed down main street for the parade.

Ours has become a pathetically weak culture, and GB, you are exhibit A. Oh dear, we can't have our kids going to a school not of their choosing. Oh my, we can't allow our kids to see anything that might wound their delicate sensibilities.

100 years ago our kids would have already been required to work to pull their weight in the family. They would have been expected to address adults as "sir" and "ma'am"...that is, when they were invited to speak at all. And their opinions on family decisions would have been accorded their actual value--roughly zero. But of course that was back when kids were actually raised to have character. Now it's child abuse if they don't have unlimited texting and a My Space account.

Now i am sitting here crying hating myself for all of the bad that i have done to my daughter. I should feel better in a few hours after i have a few drinks!!!!

Believe me i dont condone any idiot that is harassing children playing softball or any child in general.
I know many a father and sometimes a mother who will have a beer or two at the ball park. This is not 10 o'clock in the morning. This is usually 5-6 in the evening after being at the park since 7:00 am. I guess we're just a bunch of irresponsible alcoholics.
