compuware tourney in michigan

just wanted to get some info out that this premier midwestern tourney seems to be making some bad choices (or at least protecting their own in-state teams) . For several years they have accepted the best teams from ohio for this invitational showcase tourney. It's very popular with college coaches and the older age groups. this year they turned down one of Ohio's best 18u teams, the Nightmare . Nightmare went 2-0 VS michigan's asa champ from last year. Nightmare is a very nice established org that has played in the ASA nats the past 2 years (14th in 07") They were appox 120-18 the past 2 years. And several other top ohio teams have been turned down and 1st year org's are being let in. Been a hot topic on the ohio board. MD

Same thing happed to Indiana this past summer. They want to make sure that "their" team placed well and don't want to see them get their butts handed to them. It has turned into a joke. Fortunately there are several other big showcases the same weekend, and we wont be losing any sleep.

12u runner up (from ohio) Ohio Ice from last year got rejected this week.

Not sure why the 12U would get the boot. I read the other day that the 18's would now be a qualifier, so that explains that. Of course they want their own teams in, but didn't Compuware qualify and attend last years Nats? One of MI's best orgs should want to play the best from other states. Protecting their own self interest I guess. I have been trying to talk DD's coach into going, not anymore after reading this.

FWIW my kids team is in, but they are freezing out other top ohio org's. Wolfpack 18u is the latest top team to get denied. Nightmare and Wolfpack are 2 of the top 16-18u teams in ohio. MD

I think the application process/deadline is a joke. Called almost as soon as application hit their site and was told age division had been filled like 6 months ago. How could it be filled for 6 months if the application just hit the website? Why bother posting on your site to watch for the application if teams had been given slots before others could even try to register?
