2011/12 is getting started soon....who are THE 12/11u teams?

Bake wrote:Why do teams that have a mixture of two ages put a birth year in their team name. This misleads people into thinking that all the players on that team were born in the same year. Please post reasons why a team would do this. Most of the better programs in Illinois will use the coach's initials in the team name if they have a mix. If I had one 99 on my team we would drop the 2000 from our team name. For example Team Energy has a mix and they don't use 2000 in their team name.
IMO it makes a big difference in a team if you have 3 or 4 kids from the older end of an age group, especially when they are the better players on your team.
Maybe I am looking into this to deeply, I just like to be upfront!!!

Bake, first thing is i hate days off with no chores.

The way i look at ages and teams.
Most i think, correct me if i'm wrong, are 2 year teams before moveing up.

2 years at 12's for most kids, some lil younger,some lil older,
So to me a first year 12's would be say girls B- days qualify them for 1999 play -
within that group,,so say 2000's qualify for same play,, one is a first year 12's the other older 12's would be 2nd year ,,same goes for 14's,,16's.

But then when any team that get's in a tourny of say 12u's and dont do good against lil older 2nd year 12's. then they say ''well'' there older then us,,same goes at 14's and 16's.

So again,,if any 12,14 or 16u's play in a tourny,,thats why i think it's best to say that YA, were a first or seconed year team..if not, then no one should ever hear,,OH YA,,were a younger team.

If an 11u,,13u,,15u team play,,we all know what there playing,,12u,,14u, 16u,,according to the birth day,,,hope your not confused because i think i just confused myself

I don't believe I've said anything negative or bad. I've only wrote a few things on here. Of course I read this thread as most people do because I find some of the things said amusing. I don't respond because usually the postings are negative. I have no problem stating my name because I have nothing to hide. I think you can tell who I am by my first posting. Personally, I don't have any problems with any teams and nothing bad to say. I come in peace! :D

I think this conversation is funny because there has been a parent from the "cp00" team going around and bashing other girls and teams this year.. Everyone knows it because you can hear this parent in the stands running their mouth to whomever will listen and on facebook. People talk. Keep your mouth running to a minimum and let the girls do the talking on the field. I'm tired of parents ruining the game for everyone else.

NSA North Review (Warsaw 6/22 - 6/24)
==========================

Schedule - Everything seemed ok. Everyone knew upfront of the Friday games and we were prepared. My only critique would be playing only 1 game on Saturday and 4 on Sunday. I am sure there is a viable reason for it but that would be the only reason I wouldn't give this a 10 rating. The games were being kept on time. I think the final championship game started exactly on time which to me was impressive. A nice touch was keeping the brackets and team scores updated on both the west and east facilities. RATING: 9 (Work out the 4 games on Sunday versus 1 on Saturday and this would have been a 10)

Umpiring - Nothing extremely out of the ordinary. Some good, some bad. But overall, it was solid. I would not have a problem using 90% of the umps at any tournament I hosted. RATING: 8

Parking and Facilities - I am not sure someone could ask for more. Parking is easy and fantastic. My only complaint this year would be the use of the temporary barrier preventing the teams from warming up on the soccer fields. It makes warming up more cramped. The grounds crew did a solid job all weekend and kept the games on time and the fields updated and prepared. Bathrooms seemed clean most of the entire weekend. Solid work. RATING: 9 (Get rid of the temporary barrier and it would have been a 10).

Concession Stand - Gotta love the refill cups! Hot dogs are only ok, the burgers were good on Saturday and the Pork Sandwiches on Friday were also excellent. The service was ok, not great but not bad. Prices were very surprisingly excellent. To me, it almost felt like a steal (Too Cheap). Gotta throw CCAC props on keeping their prices low. RATING: 9.5

Team Reviews:
==========

Laporte Lazers - To me, this is one of my favorite teams. Team has really improved as the season has progressed. What I liked was their development of a solid #2 pitcher. I talked with one of their original coaches and liked how many of their players have been playing together since their early days of 8u/10u. I think it was something like 6-8 kids. That tells me they are about development. Kudos to the coaches! This team has the ability to beat anyone on any given day. Do not take them lightly unless you want to go home early.

Indiana Ambush - Another one of my favorite teams. This program has been developing kids the right way for years. If you played them last fall, it isn't even close to the same team. Nothing flashy other than making the fundamental plays look easy. To me, that means good coaching. This is not a team to ever overlook.

Warriors - "The little team that could". I believe they are almost all 11's. They have 3 solid pitchers who are able to hit their spots and change speeds. They each are also a little different in style and will pay dividends over time. Solid speed at the top of the lineup. Our size, strength and age is able to overcome their positives, but this is also not a team to overlook. Should be a leading team for the 2012-2013 season in 12u. "Fear the spear!" in 2013.

Indiana Shock - This is a program on the rise. Great coaching. We are gonna steal a few things we saw from them this weekend. Kudos to their coaching staff. I can remember them when they were the "Little team that could" and have coached and groomed this team in a positive way that is now paying dividends. They have two solid pitchers, a solid catcher (Be careful on when you run on them) and great athletes. I was also impressed with how many fans came and watched the game. To me that shows great support for what they are doing at Indiana Shock.

CP Bulldogs 2000 - What I like about this team is it is obvious to me the coaching is looking at ways to develop their kids. I do like the uniforms. Those are nice. I like how they adjust in games. I like their leadoff hitter (Lefty slapper who is a true triple threat - power, soft bunt and slap). I like their main pitcher - workhorse and competitive. At the end of the day what someone can take away or steal from them is how important the little things are to winning games. They are able to do a lot of little things well and is what makes them a tough out for anyone. The only thing that holds them back is what will make them one of the best in 2013. Being so heavily dominated by 11's their size, strength, speed etc.. Give them 6-12 more months of growth and you will see these guys playing up into 14u a little bit next year and doing well.

For those who want to start up the 2013 - 11u debate early. Here are some teams you want to start putting on your radar for 2013.

Indiana Thunder - Their current team is about 1/2 11u's. They were able to take down one of my favorites (Laporte Lazers) on a Friday game (Meaning their #1 pitcher was fresh). Great game to watch. Kudos for them. Fear them in 2013. Once they are able to reload for 2013, get a little bit back on track they will be tough.

Harris Heat 2000 - Our 11u team in our program. What I like about them is they will have 3 solid pitchers. Each with the ability to hit their spots and change speeds and each able to go up in the zone as well. Their top of their lineup will be comprised of two of the fastest kids with speed and power you will find in northern Indiana. This team went something like 40-3 in their 10u year. Do not overlook them in 2013.

Wawasee - I think they are bringing back 8 or 9 from their team next year. My only concern is replacing their 12u pitcher and catcher. If they can successfully do that they too will be a tough out.

Fall 2012 and 2013 should be a fun time for 12U softball in Northern Indiana.

FUNNIEST THING I HEARD ALL WEEKEND
==========================
Not sure which CP Bulldog 2000 coach said this, but when you guys were playing the Indiana Shock game I wasn't feeling too well and was laying down but still listening to the cheering. Through the cheering I heard one of the coaches say: "Girls, I know we are dressed in Red and White, but that doesn't mean we are Santa Claus and have to give everything away". Funniest thing I heard all weekend. Gonna steal that one!

Gonna Throw in a little brag for our team
===========================
Like a lot of teams, those first games of a day or tournament etc.. can be tough. We came out in our first game and proceeded to give up 4 runs on really lackluster play in our first half inning. After that inning we went on to give up 0 runs the rest of the tournament. 31 consecutive scoreless innings. After that first half inning we outscored our opponents 62-0. We played really well and got lucky on not having to play the Lazers, Mystique, Thunder, Revenge, Heat 2000, or Wawasee. Thanks to everyone who took the time to chat about their teams, DD's and their love of softball. It is fun talking to the Heybucket Forum members at the tournaments!

I just wanted to say thank you for all the nice things you had to say about our team and my daughter. She is the pitcher you referred to as a work horse! I normally wouldn't let her read stuff on here but I think for the first time I will let her read what you wrote. She has been playing your girls for sometime now and your team has grown so much since 10U All Stars. We were in the Babe Ruth State Tournament in South Bend back a couple years ago when she just started pitching for Hammond Optimist. Missed seeing the twins this weekend, they are some great softball players. By the way our third base coach has many many one liners, I personally think he should write a book! lol He's a great coach as are all our coaches. Thanks again for your kind words. You have a great group of girls. By the way I have to agree with you about Laporte Lazers, I think we've played them about 6 times in the last 2 weeks and their one of my favorite teams as well. Great coaches and girls. My daughter has been playing against their team since she was 10 in fall ball. She actually hugged their starting pitcher after our game was over this weekend. Good Luck to you and your team!

Yippee! I'm glad to see a respected coach feels the same way about this marvelous coaching staff! I've been saying over and over and over again how great they are with the girls. You are right, the main pitcher is definitely a work horse. Most NSA B teams have a hard time hitting her tremendous speed!! The majority of the 11 year old girls are a tiny little squad but don't let their size fool you. They pack a HUGE punch for their size!!! Playing 14U next year might be a stretch. This is the only part of your comment that I disagree with. Thank you for the nice compliments about this great team and good luck the rest of the season!

I've seen her pitch in a lot of tourneys this year. She is good pitcher that keeps them in a lot of games. She will definitely be missed by the team next year!

“This type of tourney just proves that indeed there are to few ASA teams in Indiana..”

I couldn’t agree more which is probably why so many 12u teams play NSA. It is a vicious circle……not enough teams in Indiana play ASA at 10 and 12u so the tourneys are small and not very competitive (at least not compared to the ASA tourneys in Illinois) which discourages teams from signing up for ASA. This year we have had two tourneys cancelled due to the lack of teams signing up and so far both ASA/USA qualifiers have been small with the last one being so small they had to play 12 and 10 together to get the guaranteed games in for each team.
Another reason ASA frustrates me not having more information available online. We did not find out until Weds who would be playing in the tourney and by then it was too late to try and find another tourney in Illinois. Not that we didn’t enjoy playing teams such as Gators2001 (great fans, enjoyable to watch, and funny coach) but our previous tourneys better prepared us for the games in the future.

NSA on the other hand has a running list of teams signed up for a tournament so a team can look at their competition and decide if the benefit is worth the cost of traveling to the tourney. For example, a coach can look at the NSA state tournament in Indy, see there are 10 good teams, determine no matter what the bracket placement is their team will see some tough competition making the trip worth the cost.

Speaking of NSA A State does anyone know why Gators99 (whit) isn’t going? It should be a very competitive tourney. Probably one of the better tourneys in Indiana so it would be nice if the team most agree is the best team in Indiana would play.

“Have you played any Asa in Illinois or Michigan? Because Asa in those states is a whole different ball game at this age level”

Agreed which is why I would say even though Team Energy technical won their berth this past weekend they actually earned the right to the berth by finishing so high in the qualifiers they played in Illinois and Michigan.

Laporte Lazers is one of my favorite teams as well……along with Harris Heat for course.

I wonder if either or both of those teams will go A ASA ball next year at 14u?

I see nothing wrong with the bulldogs playing this weekend at ASA state. On this forum people are continually giving teams a hard time for not playing ASA so it is a little confusing why anyone would try to discourage a team who wants to play in ASA State. Actually it would be great if Harris would play ASA State this weekend as well. The more good teams signed up for a tourney, the more competitive the tourney, which makes our Indiana girls better players.

I would much rather have teams like the bulldogs2000, LaPorte, Harris, and maybe even more of the top finishers at NSA B State sign up for the tourney then have another tourney where they combine 10 and 12u.
