An all time new low from a HS pricipal and softball coach

by softball**mom » Wed May 23, 2012 4:53 pm

I just need to vent a bit about a HS in the CIF-SS who refused to move a playoff softball game one day so that seven of our seniors on the softball team could attend graduation!! A quarterfinal game is scheduled for Thursday, which is the night of our school's graduation. As the game is away for us (about a 2 hour ride) we asked if we could hold the game on Friday. Their response: no. "Maybe your girls can miss the entrance and graduation walk and arrive in time to get their diplomas." REALLY, this from a high school principal???

So they are forcing us to either forfeit or have the seniors miss either the game and/or graduation. They are also forcing the underclassmen to miss their last final exam on Thursday, so we can get to the game on time, and come back to school on Friday (which is the first day of summer vacation - and the faculty has to come back as well) to take the last final. This isn't as big a deal as graduation, but really guys, you couldn't move the game just one day?

Where's the integrity and sportsmanship, heck, where's the common courtesy? Is this the lessons they teach in that school? They are a better team than us and will most likely win, but really guys forcing our girls to choose between a playoff game and graduation?

Maybe they should read their own Athlete's Code of Ethics to "Exhibit fair play, sportsmanship and proper conduct on and off the playing field."

I hope karma bites you in the ass . . . real hard.

Ok, I'm done now and stepping off my soap box. I feel better; well, not really but it's the best I can do.

I will most likely write to that school's principal, AD, softball coach and a cc to CIF after the game politely letting them know how I feel and that it is pretty much disgusting what they are making us do.

All I have to say to this is these girls are "Student Athletes". Not "Athlete Students". It is a shame accommodations can not be made for you guys, but attending finals and graduation is so much higher up the totem pole than a "High School" playoff game, it's not even funny! It's a shame both can't be accomplished, but I don't think it is even a decision.

Is this the norm in high school? Has this happened before? Does not
seem "right" in every sense of the word. Name names...

It's funny, their first round game was played a day later on a Friday. Don't know if it was their request or the other team's.

I am so sorry to hear about this.

Our school had this situation a few years back. Our Principal told the girls on our team, he would wait for them. He notified all the parents and when people were arriving to the Graduation, again he explained there would be a delay due to the playoff game.

Shame on the other school. :x

Before you string them up you should ask if they have a legitimate reason why they can't move it. Then string them up!

Btw they have no Events scheduled for Friday.
Ladies, if a man tells you he will fix it, he will fix it. There is no reason to remind him about it every six months.
