Back Yard batting cage question

what would be a good econimical way to go? machine, netting, balls. I've seen some cheap machines for under 200, the jugs light around 400. dont really wana spend over 1k for just a machine.

Keep searching on Craigs List. I found every thing I needed there to build a very nice cage. Good luck.

I would assume your DD is 10 or 12U ... But FYI, if you want a good answer, give better info ... Because if your DD is getting ready to sign her NLI, the advice would be different than if she was getting her first period ...

The Trend Sports Heater is a good 1st machine for $399. It only throws 50mph, but it will do ya for a couple years. It comes with a feeder too!

I would just focus on the cage and do all front toss with a screen to protect you. Focus on pulling inside pitches/screwballs. Letting outsides go deep in the zone and hit it to the right. Hips/tilting for drop curves and "on the fly" adjustments in the swing. Little wiffles, big wiffles, full softballs, anything and everything. After awhile you will get your mojo and throw everything at her and will even get a decent mean riseball . Your shoulder will hurt to all heck after the first few 1000 - 3000 pitches but it will iron itself out.

If it is backyard also (assuming you're not laying concrete), look hard on the internet for a proper homeplate and batters box solution. The grass will get really worn fast otherwise and will become an issue with giant holes in the dirt and will mess up her thinking when she swings.

No room in the backyard, so we went a different path. Setup the garage with a net, and do a lot of tee and soft toss. Repitition, repitition, repitition.....

It can rain all it wants, get as cold or hot as it wants, and we still have a place to practice.

Why stop at building a net when you can always build a Pole Barn. Pitching machines in my book are way over rated. Yes they have a purpose, to help with Speed. You should work Tee and front toss from behind a net at short distance to be able to work both sides of the plate. Just one old timers take on it.
