If the BU went out on the ball, that's his call. There isn't an appeal to PU.

Is R1 out since LF threw to F1?
How does the pitcher getting the ball retire R1?
Is R1 out if DC appeals saying she left early?
No, the DC is not authorized to make the appeal. Assuming an infielder, pitcher or catcher made the appeal, the runner shouldn't be out since the umpire's erroneous call placed the runner in jeopardy.
Is R1 put back to 1B?
That would be the appropriate action.
