Has anyone seen a drop in girls trying out for softball at your schools? I've talked to people from various school and numbers seem to down.

Most schools in Hancock Co are struggling to field even jv teams. Could it be the ripple effect of not having Olympic softball?

I've heard both ways. Seymour had more come out than I can recall. Several schools have let me know they'd be playing a JV game, when they haven't in the past due to numbers. I spoke to one of our conference coaches last week, and he said he's struggling to fill a JV team, this is from a large 4A school, that is a traditional power in our conference.

Who knows why numbers are down. Perhaps sport specialization is one reason - the better athletes are only playing one sport these days.

Our numbers were decent. We'll field freshman and JV squads this year again, with a few cuts.

Dave

Great to hear you had such good numbers that you are able to field 3 teams and still have to make a few cuts.

Will your freshman team have games to play since it seems like everyone is struggling to even field a JV team?

Hope things are going well and I will get by to see some of your games this year.

Brad,

Well, making cuts is not a fun thing to do - especially being in the building with them everyday. Just not fun.

Good question about our frosh team. We've loaded the schedule with multiple games with schools who have frosh teams (Avon, HSE, etc). This is will make for good, competitive games at the frosh level. FC was on our frosh schedule for at least 3 games, but I really don't know what we'll do with them.

You've been to RHS numerous time, come on by - you can even bring the bucket and holler at me if you want!

FC should be good this season. Lost 7 from last years regional team, but should plug those holes easily if done correctly!(stop it killer!!) They have the entire pitching staff back(3 of them), a good catcher and a hand full of utility players. We'll see how it goes!! But, they picked up New Pal in already the toughest sectional in the state![/quote]

Toughest Sectional. Don't forget about Carmel, Hamilton Southeastern and Noblesville

I'd think a sectional with four teams capable of winning the state (FC, New Pal, Greenwood, and Center Grove) is tougher than a sectional with three teams capable of winning state (Carmel, HSE, and Noblesville).

3 state titles in the last 4 years suggests the other sectional is actually winning the tournament and not just claiming to be capable.
