It is not a foultip unless it is caught.

Because to me if you foul tip a ball with 2 strikes the batter is not our unless the ball is CAUGHT.

If it is not caught it is a foul ball!! If it is caught it is a foul tip!!
Two totally different terms with totally different meanings and results. Don't use them as one and the same.

For some reason, that is a difficult concept for some people to wrap their brains around. I think the primary reason is the television announcers, who invariably, when a ball is hit sharply and directly to the backstop (I am not using this word as a slang reference to the catcher, either, but rather the wall), will say something along the lines of "Jones tipped that pitch."

Maybe that's because most people come to that party empty handed ;)

Once you start citing "television announcers", you've pretty much said it all.

It should be ruled a foul ball. It is no different than if the ball rebounds off of the backstop and is caught!
Also the ball laying in a glove that is not on a players hand--- looks like an error to me. You need to have possession and control to be a legal catch.

Now im really confused!!!!!!!!!! I thought the ball was dead after it was fouled off of the backstop. I thought it was still live if it was fouled off of the catchers glove and mask as long as it didnt hit the ground?? :? :?

It would really help if you cited the posts to which you are responding. I must assume you are not responding to the OP since your response would be completely wrong.

To answer your question, the batter is still up at the plate and the count is still 3 - 2. I hope this helps.

Which rule set? So far, I've only seen ASA cited and you are both wrong there.

Thanks
