junior varsity sofball

Yep JV is painful for those used to travel ball, its a mixture of kids from League Ball wanting to play for their high school, travel ball players and some girls who step on the field for the first time ever. As stated previously the better JV teams are those schools with loaded V teams. The one exception I've heard rumors of this year is the KIngwood JV, the V coach announced before the tryouts that all freshman would play JV, if they stuck to it that will be a very good JV team, they have some players that could take starting V spots on a lot of teams.

The scary part is what the girls are used to in the speed of the game, take a couple of travel ball players, put them on JV with League players and you will see a huge difference at the speed they play. Put the travel ball player at short and league player at first, grounder to short, first base turns to go to first and isn't facing short when she releases the ball, result is travel ball player holds ball and runner is safe or she throws it and first takes a ball to her body and ends up in a pile on the dirt hurt. Not pretty either way, saw both happen in fall ball.

To your point, my daughter has already broken a teammates hand in this young season because the girl decided to try to catch my daughters relay throw from the outfield with her throwing hand. :o

Bad idea. The docs had to use pins to get everything set right. More causalties to come I'm sure, and not from the travel ball kids. I hope the coach uses the experienced girls to play 1st and 3rd or the damage could get real

What gets scary is when someone would dare to tell your kids to 'slow it down' to protect those kids who shouldnt be out there to start with.

At our HS, it is all about Varsity. We are nationally ranked every year, but I assume coach expects girls all come from select teams and are taught skills there. Most JV programs are coached by people with no softball knowledge, such as basketball and volleyball coaches for budget reasons.

What budget reasons? Schools have x number of teaching slots and have to fill the x number of coaching slots with those teachers. But who coaches the JV softball team is no more a budget reason than who coaches the JV soccer team or the JV basketball team. It is simply a who can fit the open slot.

I think you are just looking at it from a softball parent point of view. The soccer parent who's JV daughter is coached by the assistant softball coach feels the same way.

From a softball parent perspective, some shools are lucky in that they have a larger number of teachers with softball playing or coaching experience, while some are unlucky and have more teachers with soccer playing or coaching experience.

Our JV coach has plenty of varsity softball experience. Our Varsity coach has more experience with QUIDDITCH. It would be funny if it wasn't my daughter playing for him!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is he still lining up with the opposing team to give "high 5's" to them when they get introduced?
