Questions and discussions involving PGF

by ridinsuicide » Fri Feb 10, 2012 8:25 pm

Fastpitchdad05,

You are 100% correct!! It wasn't about ASA vs PGF, until a few sarcastic know-it-alls gave their obviously biased opinion on here, bashing ASA and the way they host their tournaments, and where, etc. Please revert back to page 4-5 and read ALL the comments. You will see who has the butt sore. It's the same 2 or 3 guys on here that, if you look at historical comments and posts on here, seem to have the same arrogant, cocky, negative comment to make on EVERY post whether it involves them or not!! U asked my question, or got my answer...and then some!! Thanks for all the input.....

Spazsdad you stated "And what about all of the ASA Nationals that required you to book through their housing group? You were not able to book on your own since all the rooms were blocked off. Teams could not make a reservation until they were qualified and the housing coordinator gave them an approval." Do you have a link with this information? I can't find it doing an internet search.

This thread has been interesting to read.

For us cost will be one of the determining factors and though playing in CA would be a great experience the cost of flying the whole family would be huge. Driving from the East, South, and Midwest is possible with ASA/USA located in Moline. Driving to CA is not as doable.

At an older age the experience will be worth the expense for DD but at 12U the "family" experiencing it together is more important to me.

As for hotels I have looked at the prices for Moline and there is a wide range of choices. At 12u, at least for our team, the girls mostly stay with their family and we try to get rooms together. From what I have read on the PGF site the teams would be required to stay at selected hotels and if a team choose to have children stay with their parents the team would be charged 1500 for nationals or 500 for qualifiers for not using the selected hotels. Or am I reading this information incorrectly?

I hope softball opens the door for DD to travel and have some wonderful experiences but at 12u I think she is still young enough it is important we do this as a family. The location of ASA/USA makes it possible for the whole ( including grandparents) family to go.

Not really sure why everyone keeps going back and forth arguing this. Every team has different goals. If you want to play in a year end National tournament and keep expenses down you have a couple of options. If you want to play the best teams in the country, go to PGF.

We are traveling to CA from AL to play PGF because, win or lose, we want to play the best teams in the country. ASA hosts 10U, 12U, and usually 14U Nationals on the Eastern half of the country every year and the best CA teams have always found a way to make those trips. I just look at it as it's our turn to return the favor and head West.

Sunny weather, mild temps, low humidity, and no chance of rain sounds pretty good too. :)

I am looking at this unbiased!! Can anyone tell me, factually, what the benefits and hype is with PGF?? Seriously, not speculation!! My teams goal, this year was to play a true Nationals and compete against the best of the best from ALL across the country. Sure, Cali teams are a BIG part of that, but not all top 10 teams were Cali. So, it's PGF Nationals, however you will have 3-4 teams tops from outside of Cali and Az...how is that a Nationals?? Just asking?? That's like saying you won USFA Nationals....nobody west of Texas ever even heard of USFA!!! ASA is the ONLY organization to my knowledge that traditionally truly draws teams throughout the ENTIRE country...Cali included...right?? Now, with that being said, if you garaunteed me there would be 75-100 scouts at 12U PGF "Nationals" then MAYBE it would be worth it. Otherwise, that is a LOOOOONG way to go to play a regular tournament. People for years have praised ASA and would STRIVE to win ASA Nationals as it was the greatest honor, even as late as this past year. So, now there is a PGF Nationals for 12U, and it is local for Cali teams, that is now the one to win?????

You keep asking for an unbiased opinion and people keep giving it to you. You just don't want to hear it. We are unbiased. We have played at ASA Nationals for the past three years as a 99 team, had a great time, and the best 99 teams in the country were always there. That is just not the case anymore.

If any 99 team wants to claim they are "true" National Champions at the end of this Summer they are going to have to play and beat the best.

2010 ASA/USA 10U National Champions - Firecrackers
2011 ASA/USA 12U highest finishing 99 team - Batbusters-Bragg

Where will those teams be??? PGF.

Those are just the facts. Not an opinion. Have fun in Moline. It will be a great tournament. No shame in going there.

Bolts 99,
I am assuming you are with the Thunderbolts from Birmingham?? Not sure if you are the coach, but I believe we invited you guys to come and play in our tournament that we are hosting here in Louisiana. I am with Cenla Heat, We are trying to round up some of the best competition in the south to compete against and would love for you guys to come....

My kid went to Bloomington for ASA Nats at 12U, then PGF at 14s.

With 14s and up, the only goal we have is PGF. At 12s, I would still do ASA. At 12s, it isnt about the scouts, its about the experience. At 12u, that Nationals experience will be at ASA, not PGF.

Worrying about scouts at 12U? C'mon...
You will play some of the best at one and some of the best at the other. You will not have all of the best at either.
