The games should have been flip flopped but Canyon and Esperanza didn't want to play each other since they are in the same league.
Had Esperanza won would they have not played the final?

Actually, teams were scheduled to avoid playing teams in their leagues all weekend if possible. Both Pacifica and Esperanza would not have played the final game no matter what. Both Esperanza and Canyon did not want to play each other being in the same league and Esperanza also did not want to play OLU again since they already played them on Sunday and will see each on February 29. This was all mutually agreed upon.

So........how are the teams that played this past weekend any different than the teams that will play in league. I know they call themselves "HS club teams" but they were wearing HS uniforms, they are being coached by the same HS coach, the roster will be the same as in reg league.........so just because they call themselves HS club teams, they become club teams? CIF says that 2/24/12 is the first official softball date, how did they get around this rule? Curious??

The CIF rules for Season of Sport for softball do not go into effect until 2/24 so teams are free to do and play who they like. Just like the teams that play the fall DH league or that play scrimmages before that date CIF rules have no bearing on the teams. No rule is in effect that they need to "get around"

So why is there emphasis that this is "HS club" if there is no rule to "get around"

Probably because outside of the season there technically is no "team"
Or I could be totally off base and confused as usual.

This is the quote from the Surf City web site that set off my question:
"THE CIF OFFICIAL SEASON OF PLAY DOES NOT BEGIN UNTIL FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH. ALL TEAMS ARE CONSIDERED CLUB TEAMS UNTIL THEN AND CAN PLAY ON ANY DAY OF THE WEEK."
What is the technical difference between "club HS teams" and "reg season HS teams" Something does not pass the smell test. I wonder if CIF would consider them club teams?
