If you were to sit down and host a tournament a tournament to serve the teams traveling from across the US, you would never think to look at the places that ASA looks

With the exception of last years 18G in San Diego, I agree.

If PGF were to be in Florida in 2013 and ASA were to be in Midland, Moline, Bloomington, Sioux Falls, or any of the other regular ASA circuit stops, SoCal teams would aim for PGF in Florida.

I agree, but what if ASA was in San Diego, Roseville, or Irvine?

Take Roseville out of the equation and lets go with just So Cal. In this case, I think half would go, half would stay and play ASA. Economics is always a factor. The problem with this scenario is that outside of 18G, it will never happen because ASA cant control the prices.

@JonRiv,

We do see the same teams throughout the year, but it doesnt get old because the competition is excellent. Even with our SoCal tournaments where out of area teams come to play, we generally still see mostly So Cal teams beyond the quarter finals.

(putting on flame proof suit now)

We would rather play the best, regardless of whether or not we play them a dozen times a year. Our kids all know each other anyways, so at a minimum they play for pride and bragging rights for a week.

I keep hearing about cheaper airfare, and cheaper hotels in L.A vs Moline. Have you done your homework?? Cause I have.... From N.O to Moline, IL...$344 (roundtrip)...N.O to L.A...$420 (roundtrip)...NOW, we have concluded that statement isn't a fact, let's look at hotels... 12 rooms blocked in Moline, IL...$55 per night (4 star hotel).......hotel rates in L.A...$82 per night (4 star hotel).... Just thought I would throw a few facts out there for those that didn't know...

Spaz, maybe you missed the part where I said the rooms were blocked off already...as in reserved for that price. Again, I'm not trying to argue here. I simply got on to ask a question or two and I have found myself getting answers from a few people that seem to be on the PGF payroll...lmao Look, I am almost POSITIVE the TOP organizations will be at ASA Nationals defending titles and upholding their reputations. Thanks to the few PM'S from people actually involved for the info. Hope to see you guys at Nationals. Everyone else, good luck at your PGF Western Nationals...hahahahahha

I always booked well in advance since I felt confident we would qualify and I never found rooms for 55 a night in a place I would stay in, nor expect my families to stay in. Hope that works out for you.
Many teams that try two or three times to qualify do not book their rooms that far out and get much higher rates.
Let me just end by saying your last line shows what a homer you are and if you think you will be playing the best teams in Moline, well, enjoy your trip. It is not that far to field of dreams.

And Spaz is NOT a PGF homer :D

Here is the ASA published list of hotels. http://www.molineasa.com/PDF/2012%20tournament/Preferred%20Hotel%20List%202012%20ASA%2012U%20National%20Tournament-%20Nov%2017.pdf
There are two $65 a night hotels. Not sure I would stay in either. You can stay in way cheaper hotels in LA. Red Roof Inn in Santa Ana says $60. I am sure you call and can get a better deal. The rest of the hotels on the ASA look equivalent in price to what you would see in LA.

More importantly. The cheap hotels at ASA nationals, and the pre-tournament published rates, is a new thing. You can send a nice big thank your to PGF guys for that. 6 years ago we stayed at the Days Inn in Johnson City, an absolutely horrid place, for $105 a night. The next week you could get the room for $45. Hotel gouging at ASA was common and well known by all that attended. Kudos to Moline and Johnson City for realizing that teams were going to bale on them. But again, neither none of these cities would do this had PGF not come along.

As far as flights, it is easy to do a search. Right now NO to LA for the PGF dates is $405 and Moline is $429. But you better jump on them, cause Moline flights will go up as seats sell. LA will likely stay the same or go down.

ASA says their tournament is from 7/28-8/5 which is 9 days. PGF is 7/23-7/27, 5 days. Leaving you more time to enjoy family and sight see, instead of sitting in hotel while ASA drip drips along on their back loaded tournament schedule.

He is a HB homer!

If you book through a "published" hotel on the website you are an IDIOT!!!! Its called priceline...try it!! The hotels listed on ASA or ANY other sanction is in cahoots with that organization and WILL be higher!!!!!!!!!!!! It doesnt take a genius to figure that out!!!! And of course PGF will only be 4 or 5 days. It doesnt take NEARLY as long to go through brackets of a 40-50 team tournament vs. a 100 team bracket (ASA)... Your smaller "regional" Nationals will ALWAYS be shorter!!! Again, good luck at you Western Nationals......

Nope, your opinion is quite alright!! I take offense to nothing said on here or anywhere else. I am simply stating a few facts. I came on and asked a question about Nationals and people STARTED BASHING ASA saying there would be no competition there this year, PGF is the greatest thing since sliced bread, yada, yada, yada!!!! Well, ASA must not be too bad because for the last 20 years EVERY team in the country had a goal to win Nationals. INCLUDING the organization you are, or were involved in!! If I were a betting man, I would say PGF is sooooo great because they are obviously catering to the SoCal area!! Does it make them better, negative!!! And again, without a doubt, our MAIN GOAL is to play the best 12u teams out there at Nationals. We will welcome ANY competition. P.S, I can GUARANTEE that is ASA were in SoCal and PGF were in Moline.......the story would be completely OPPOSITE!!!!

It was never an ASA vs PGF thing.

You asked where the best teams would be and your didn't like the answer you got.

Good luck in Moline.

And for God's sake get some salve for that buttsore of yours.

Some teams did it at 16 two years ago and 18 last year and it is brutal on girls of that age, leave alone 12 yr olds.
jMHO of course :P

100% correct - 12U teams should not play both ........... very hard on the girls!

I really don't care if you go to ASA or PGF..... but 11 & 12 is too young for both.
