Best 14U Teams in NTX

To me there is a big difference. Verballed is just that- a verbal acceptance of a verbal offer and it's not binding. Coaches and players can and do back out for a variety of reasons.

For those of us who have been through it, "committed" means you have some form of written contract or agreement in place. This could be a NLI or other form of agreement.

Until completion of the commitment process, a "verballed" player only has bragging rights.

I have been through it. Twice. For those of us who have been through it, "signing" means you have a written agreement in place. It's called the NLI.

What you're describing as "verballed" is called a verbal commitment. The question for heyseed is,
What is the difference between a "verbal" and a "commitment"?
Apparently it's pretty big, but those of us who have been through it have no idea what it is.

Wow Justawatacher, you really are having a hard time with this. I believe a real commitment has to be a written agreement that in this case is called the NLI. A verbal commitment is no more than just that....no commitment beyond you and that coach under the table basically. But you know that....been through it twice already you said. Your DD's are out of school already, so you know everything about this new day of 8th graders verballing. Back in your day with your DDs what grade were they when they verbally committed? Juniors? In my opinion that is a pretty big difference. I don't think I have ever said you had no idea what it was. Just an opinion from someone with DD1 in college currently and DD2 going through this new era. I just hope this house of cards doesn't fall down for these younger ladies. But justawatcher wants to know.....

Holy crap, you are talking semantics between committed and verballed? really? Who cares what it is called. What is the difference between calling a carbonated drink a pop or a soda, or how we say it down here coke, general for all? Nothing its the same damn thing. I see the point in discussing the practice of getting the 8th grader to verbally agree to go to a school, but now I have to filter thru this jibberish on the term used to say the same thing.

True but according to the above two, they are not the same thing. You're right though, we have seemed to hijacked this thread. So let's move on. Who are the best 14U teams in NTX?

Hey the kid verbaled in 8th grade. Be happy for that young lady who obviously worked hard and put herself or was put in the position to be seen and rose to the occasion. Why is everyone splitting hairs or cutting up her success? The real question is are you working with your DD and is she working on improving her game? I think several in this thread obviously know this young lady and her family and are just to use the younger gen. slang hatin. I say thats great, that one of our own in N.TX has made a big step towards their goal of playing at the next level.

What is this I hear about a series of "friendlies" between the "best 6 N Texas 14U Teams" I have been told that these "elite teams" are choosing not to play in tournaments and are playing in these so called friendlies in an effort to shut out some of the other teams and play "only the best competition." I am wondering how the other teams feel about this and about losing out on the chance to play the better teams and in turn get better themselves. Seems a little one sided to me and just who decided who these "elite" teams are an who is not an "elite team". I also hear the first of these "friendlies" are to take place this weekend in Garland.

Were these teams involved?

fastpitchfever16 wrote:Thanks for the info! I checked out the American Freedom website and did a little digging myself and you are right looks like the Fireballs are American Freedom Meyers now. I also heard they picked up a pitcher to go with their lefty. Sounds like the best teams out there are only getting better and widening the distance between them and the other teams. i.e. FB, Allen, Rhine, Firecrakers, Pride. I was unaware that the Freedom had grown to such a level. Are they the new glory? I dont know if I have seen any of their teams play or if they are any good including the gold teams.

It doesn't matter who decides or what other teams think of this. This is a good thing, not a bad thing.
