Church and Softball?

What's on your mind?

by dailyjoy » Wed Jan 25, 2012 7:21 am

In my state one of the larger complexes, which holds a tournament almost every weekend, stops play for 45 minutes on Sunday morning so anyone who chooses can attend the church service they host.

The service is put on by Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It is a very simple service with singing and then an athlete from the group sharing. It is a great way for the girls to be able to "go" to church during a tourney plus meet older role models who have a strong faith in the Lord and are athletes.

That is awesome. What state? And like He said, "Where ever two or more are gathered in My Name...", though I have called on Him many many times when it was only me gathered in His name - He was there.

I should have asked for that back when I was active in the travel ball world. Being Catholic, I always had many opportunities to attend Mass but that would have helped whoever would have been interested.

When I was in high school I got a part time job and had to work most Sunday's. One day when I was able to attend, as I was shaking the preacher's hand, he mentioned he had not seen me lately. VERY embarrassed I explained I had taken a job that took me away some Sunday's and then he said with a smile, "that is what is great about our God, he is everywhere and I am sure he is with you where you work too. We'll see you next time you are off." It was a relief to me for me to hear a man of the cloth remind me that God is with us where ever we are.

So why can't God be at the ballfield too? Why do people believe that they only place they can recieve God's word and salvation is at church? Are we so naive to believe that all those people who lived so far away from churches in the early days all died and went to hell because they didn't go to church on Sunday. On any day at any time that you or your family feel the need to hear the word of the lord, then gather together and open the Bible and read. God is not just in church, he is in the factories with those who work shift work, he is with the police, fire and military in the field and YES, he is at the ball field too. If he is in your heart, he is at the park too.

FCA has a softball division to help athletes balance this need in their life. Led by Dot Richardson and her husband Bob Pinto, you can find solice in their support and understanding for the balance we all try to achieve in our lives. Maybe you can look there for ideas.

Jesus said to repent, and allow Him in your heart. Let God be the Lord of your life. call on His great name and believe and you shall be saved. understand the gospel and His resurrection. have faith in all that God promised and you shall have a place in the book of life.

These are some great post's. thanks.

I know you don't have to go to church to be saved, but it doesn't hurt. like was said above, For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Mat 18:20.

but don't forget .do not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Heb 10:25
and one of my favorites.
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17.

we did decide to go back to rec, because they play on sat. not sunday. My DD is only 10 and I think it is important for her to be in Sunday School and Church on Sunday and AWANAs on tue. My older DD has made some life long friends this way. and bear will be going to JR high next year. and we do continue to be good examples at home and teach our girls. we will see what happens.
thanks
