New Changes for the Dallas and Fort Worth ASA

by Dave Devine » Mon Jan 16, 2012 8:20 am

Dallas ASA and Fort Worth ASA is happy to announce that they will be combining Metro Championships in 2012. After a meeting with the new JO Commissioner John Austin, we are combining Dallas ASA Metro Championships and Fort Worth ASA Metro Championships into the DFW ASA Metro Championships. This means in 2012 the DFW Metros will be giving out 2 berths to ASA/USA Nationals for 10A, 12A, 14A, 16A, AND 18A. This also means if a team needs to use a pick up player for Nationals, they will be able to pick up any player eligible in either Dallas ASA or Fort Worth ASA. Below is the new 2012 code change that allows us to make this move.

Article Number
Article 503 A 01 b
c. If two local associations combine berths and/or championship play, pick-up players may come from either local association with the approval of both commissioners.

As always all participating class "A" & "B" teams will be qualified for Southern Nationals. We will be hosting all the following age divisions for the DFW ASA Metros.

8 "B" "C' Location Dallas ASA
10 'A" "B" "C" Location Fort Worth ASA
12 'A" "B" "C" Location Dallas ASA
14 'A" "B" "C" Location Fort Worth ASA
16 'A" "B" "C" Location Dallas ASA
18 'A" "B" "C" Location Fort Worth ASA

We will post the parks DFW Metros will be located at as soon as we confirm the locations.

John Austin? A welcome change! However, as the right-hand man of GG for a decade or so, will there be real change...or simply more of the same. Inquiring minds want to know...

Great news!

This is a positive step in reuniting the DFW softball world. I have dealt with John both on and off the field and he has always been a stand up guy. Off the field he listens to his customers (the teams) and has tried his best to do what is right and fair for all the teams. I think he follows Big Dave's mantra of re-identifying and rededicating efforts to 'B' and 'Rec' level programs, while trying to provide for the Select level teams aswell.

The positives are endless for combining the Metro Tournaments and Natl Births and this would never have been accomplished before this regime change.

A little too early to scoreboard. Let's see if JA reaches out to heal old wounds.

Never too early to start keeping score. :D

This is a great start to what could be a new beginning. I, for one am pretty pumped about combining the Metro tournaments. A.S.A. got this one right!

Joe was keeping score for VTD even before the game started. Nothing John does will please or satisfy Joeboy.

I have known John for decades. His character and integrity are among the best. Given a chance, he will excel at this new post.

Dallas ASA and Fort Worth's ASA has made more changes. For local tournament play, we will only be requiring our associations to make sure each team is ASA registered. We will be offering a package which includes ASA registration and 2 ASA background checks for only $45.00 each additional back ground check $10.00. That means for any local tournament may be played for as little as $45.00 per year and the association is responsible to determine your insurance coverage.

ASA Championship play will be per 2012 ASA Code which requires Individual picture ID cards and Back Grounds and ACE certification.

If coaches are interested in receiving the team registrations please email us.

I will be at the Mansfield GSA meeting for select teams this Saturday, January 28th, 1 PM.
The meeting will be held in the Mansfield Library Community Room, 106 S. Wisteria, Mansfield, TX.

I will be going over the ASA Registration options and process for 2012.

Any teams interested in regsitering with Fort Worth Metro ASA are welcome to attend this informational meeting.

I'm looking forward to the challenge as the new JO Commissioner in Fort Worth.
I encourage softball parents, players, and associations in the area to contact me with questions and concerns in regard to Fort Worth ASA.

So let me get this right! You can play in any DFW ASA tournament for only $45, the team provides their own insurance. Or my team can buy ASA non-photo cards which includes insurance for only $10.00 a card and play any local ASA tournament.

VTD is not excepting ASA cards or their insurance!! :?: They are requiring photo cards too. $$$$

I guess the "ALL WE WANT TO DO IS PLAY" moto, know belongs to ASA!!!

Cherrif...John has been kissing GG's badonkadonk for years. Time will tell if he reaches out to those who matter in Tarrant County. MGSA runs some nice tournaments but the area is still dominated by the associations and facilities in Northeast Tarrant....whether they run VTD, USSSA, USFA or ASA. If JA wants to get the FWASA's house in order, he'd better call a meeting...and quick...and he better come to the table with something other than the old line ASA bullsh#t.

Kudos to Big D for chasing off GG!
