18 Gold update

Here is my summary:
By the time you get to 18`s, the talent pool is so watered down in SoCal. You have teams that are strictly in it to recruit (nothing wrong with that). Then you have the upper level that actually want to win tournaments like Corona, Batbusters, Explosion and they all recruit very well. The point is that Teams like the Canes can Cherry pick from the very best of the East Coast. Notice it is only a phenomonon in the older brackets on the East. If somehow teams in the West could manage to stay together and cut down the Teamhoppin` and for a mear instant and put the Team before the Player and play as a cohesive unit, then you would notice a swing back to West Coast Dominance in the older divisions.

Be careful Arto...I know you really don't want that to happen. I mean "18 Gold update" just doesn't sound as entertaining as "DD changing #, might leave team...." whenever you reference the most commented thread in HB history. Although, I'm pretty confident that if this thread gets within striking distance, you'll find a way to light up that other piece of work to keep its rightful place in history. Not this year, Cat was injured and did not make it back.

Yes, we had a college player who had played for the organization since 7th grade and was still age eligible. Our pitcher that got the win was not a pick up player and had played with us all year and was only a junior last year. Yes she will attend LSU after graduation in 2009.
I will take nothing away from any of the SoCal or NorCal teams, all played well and could have won or lost against us or many other East Coast teams at anytime. I agree that there are many teams being produced on the east coast that are of the caliber of the Cali teams but as a whole we still have alot of catching up to do.
In the younger age groups it will be very difficult though because ASA is probably the smallest organization in many Eastern states.

Not impressed. Any rising senior worth their salt should be at Gold nationals.
Any So Cal team doing that would get laughed at.

There's a nasty rumor floating around that they are changing the name of the organization to......"The Lady Seniorors".....just a rumor....don't know if its true...

Why...I was at 16U Nationals in KY and just about every major college in the USA was there. I went to watch 18Gold ( only 2 days) and saw just about the same amount of coachs. If exposure is one of the main reasons for playing at this point, then why would a freshman or sophmore have to play GOLD.

I really do not understand why. I may be missing something that I should be thinking of.
