News flash.. Pluto has been re-classified as a dwarf planet and a plutoid...
Relevance - My dad, you, and I was taught it was just a planet. Seize the day my friend...nobody knows how many we might have left.
A master of anything learns the most from his minions.
I read all eleven of the pages of the post......and what I have learned is that you never respected authority and that only your personal opinion should be respected.
If you read the whole posts I have already made a couple of concessions concerning a proper appeal and that was what the whole argument has been about. But I have also cited at least 2 live appeal plays that did not require a "secondary action", "Known Intent", or "verbalization". The Live Appeal just took place as prescribed in the rulebook.
AND I ALSO KNOW there are situations when play has become relaxed and they do something that is not normal progression of play, then I would have to require some form of verbalization of what they are attempting to do.
They have tried to trip me up on that 1st to 3rd situation where the defender brushes up agaisnt 2B.. Come on, was an actual play being made at 2B? did the girl pause and look at me as if she wanted me to make some type of call? the answer is no.
You brought up that....Bret was just making a point.
Umpiring is about the hardest task a fan of the game can partake in. You are required to to load about 150 pages of rules in your brain and act on plays in 1 second.
Umpiring, while it may be difficult.....is not unlike any other job. Apply what you are taught....and you will be fine. You are one that tends to not apply what you are taught. Which makes me wonder if you were ever a Marine........I tend to doubt that now.....
BTW... I played baseball from the time I was 4 to 18 playing at the college level until I hurt my arm. Marines were next. At the age of 20 I was umpiring High School Ball and by 21 was umpiring at the College Level. I took a break and actually played baseball until I was 38. Travel Softball with both my girls for the last six years and now I am here on Heybucket arguing with you guys.
Ok....now you want to compare resume's.......I started umpiring baseball in 1978 and within a year was assigned to the highest level of American Legion in my part of the State. I did not deserve it, but was better than many of the umpires in the area. This type of assignment was unheard of in my area........but it happened. I went to college and had the unique opportunity to watch and learn from umpires such as Jon Bible and Randy Cristal.....poor me.....If you don't know who they are......you are not much of a college baseball official (although they do more football these days.....d;-)
I also have over 20 years of coaching experience between my three daughters (all grown now).
I only say this because I wasn't sure if you were bragging, intimidating, or just wanted me to get know you guys....LOL
I am not saying you are lying.....but I have never heard of a 21 year old umpire ever being assigned a NCAA Div I game in the 33 years I have been an official. Call it bragging if you will..........
Oh!! one last thing...I stand by my OP although I should not have been so abrasive...I was trying to kid around and it spawned into 11 pages of stuff. But I still stand by it.. We have'nt even discussed the whole no such thing as a force out at first deal but that tipped me off that he has read the rulebook about a 1000 times. When an umpire gets picky like that it makes the coaches mad. Most coaches define a force out as not having to tag a girl for the out so in effect there is such a thing as a force out at 1st base and when I read his OP he clarified that in a way that made it hard to read but he did clarify it. Even UmpSteve said the same thing and I still think it is funny. Need to be careful in what you say or how you say it or your point will not be taken seriously. Arguing with someone over a put out and a force out is never a good idea.
Coaches coach.....players play and umpires umpire...........
I am sure they are fine folks...other than a little bantering...I have never said anything bad about them. Now most of them have told me not to umpire, 1 feels sorry for me, etc... But also understand it is a website if I meet any of these fine folks in person one day I am sure it would be a good conversation. If nothing else I will allow them to look at me like some kinda of specimen for 30 seconds....LMAO
One last thing......I have determined that you are a troll.........and will not be taken seriously from now on.............just my little gift to you.
Joel
Edited due to the screwed up capabilities of this site. I guess that is why I never posted before. I hope it takes html code.
