I went to a birthday party today and of coarse their was a little softball talk going on. I heard that at 14U Western Nationals one of the teams had their pitcher go out to the circle with a ball in her glove. Then she threw out the ball that was left their. After the ball that she brought out was hit it sounded funny so the ump checked out the ball and the ball was RIF ball. Has anyone heard this and is their any truth to this?

if it happened, it wasnt talked about at anytime I was around umps, and I would think that would be mentioned since umps go on and on about stuff like that...

but doesnt mean it didnt, I didnt hear it.

Yes, it did happen. Friday afternoon, on one of the main fields. The ball was not marked RIF, but was very soft. Ump tossed the ball (he should have kept it). That team lost anyway.

Interesting, one of the parents tried again to get the ball back into the game. Coach stopped them.

Gotta luv those parents.

Somebody educate me---why would the pitcher want to use this kind of ball??? What would be her advantage???
