The choice-another twist

Here's the situation:

local player- excellent catcher(who can play SS & outfield equally well) ALL the tools(hits, runs , throws-great hard-nosed player) perennial all-state player in three sports- LOUSY grades- (gpa 2.5) and below 1,000 SAT

Grades have limited her post-secondary playing opportunities.

Two Div II teams have actively recruited her-

Team A- Smaller school - currently rebuilding their softball program. They have offered substantial $$$$$ and coach feels that she will start all four years (asst coach is a former TB coach of my DD) School has a very good academic reputation. Coach is stressing that smaller school atmosphere will let player get the attention they need to excel on the academics side as well.

Team B- Local State School(considered one of the lesser schools in the CT State University system) School is much larger that Taam A school. Very good softball- would probably not see much playing time until sophomore or even junior year. Offering no money- but a spot on the team

Here's the catch- even with the substantial $$ offered($25,000) team A is still more expensive to attend that team b


Money is certainly an issue with this family- I am sure you all can see the difficulty-- any ideas, thoughts etc....

Easy. School A. Better academics, more softball. Find a way to pay for it.

If there is no way to pay for School A, the choice is equally simple.

Here's another twist that you never hear anyone talking about.
Not all kids are cut out to go to college. With low grades and low test scores maybe some kids just need to graduate HS and enter the work force.

Two problems... no work, no softball.

Why has JC not been mentioned? I like this option as 1) it is much easier on the pocketbook for that parents and 2) if she's all that, she should have no problem being a super star at JC level.

What about a community college?

But, I agree about not all kids are cut out for college. My DD never had any interest in it. She did try it for one semester. She works, is on her own and loves it. We loved not going into debt (again) and not having her out God knows where on Spring break.

Not a lot of great JC options in this area

If she is that good of a player, then she should be considering a JC out of state that will pay her way. I can't tell you how many players that I know that do not have the grades and are getting full tuition, books, and board at a JC.

This will give them the opportunity to work on their grades and work into a 4 year university for their final 2 years.
