New NCAA $2,000 "Bonus" for Scholarship Athletes

Did you see that the NCAA this week announced that member schools can now offer a $2,000 grant (stipend) to all scholarship athletes? This is great news for all softball recruits! However, smaller conferences may vote not to implement the $2,000 grant because Title IX will create sticker shock for many smaller schools. This will place the smaller schools at a competitive disadvantage with the large schools that generate huge football revenues. Smaller D-1 and D-2 schools may now be forced to be more aggressive in their recruiting efforts for softball players.

The NCAA this week also changed the scholarship rules allowing member schools to grant MULTI-YEAR athletic scholarships versus the single year rollover. This is great news for all athletes!
