Parents Bouncing Checks To Team

We had a set of parents who attended a team fundraiser. Asked if they could write a check, thought no problem! They enjoyed the fundraiser, ate the food and drank the beverages provided by the team, included in your fund raiser buy in. One week later they are disgruntled parents and quit the team. Next thing I get in the mail, paymemt stopped on the check! What is up with that? For a measly 100.00 they rob the team for money. Money that was due and owed! Great parents! Your thoughts? Not a lot of money, but principal is killing me!

I wouldnt go way out of your way, but, detail what happened in a letter, make a copy of the check, gather any other evidence you may have and turn it over to you attorney generals office or the police and file a complaint. It is illegal to stop payment on a check for product or services recieved without good cause.

Nothing will probably come of it, but they may be very surprised to get a phone call from a detective. I had a case where I was being held out on for some documentation on a vehicle. After numerous phone calls, offering to come get the items etc etc etc I finally walked into the police station and asked to speak with someone. They took my information, made 1 phone call and 3 hours later I had all of my documents in my hand.

I say good riddance, you're probably lucky they quit the team already. It sounds like it could only go downhill from there. Count your blessings.

I like this idea. Perhaps I should take it to the police station where the hubby works! Since I got another nasty email this morning, in reply to my efferts to collect. Funny how they leave the team yet research our team record at year end tournaments. I thanked her for the compliment!!

I would sue them small claims court, People need to be held accountable for their actions,they should act like adults. This is for the girls fundraiser. The police is where you should start.

I'd leave the hubby out of it, unless you want him in hot water for abusing a position of influence or authority (especially after this public comment). Just keep it simple and clean...you're in the right here.

File a formal complaint with SoCal ASA. It costs $75, but you should get it back. Be sure to let SoCal ASA know that these people quit for no good reason and caused your team to go to ASA Western Nationals with only 9 players.

I would also make a point of calling every team they sign up to play on from now until their DD is 18....I would also call college coaches when they are older and let them know that their parents are people of very low character....but...thats me....and I might be a little over the top.

yeah calling college coaches and messing with the kids future because her parents did the wrong thing isnt right either. I would pursue it but not go to the extreme of basically ruining the girls college chancesthe kid might not even know that her parents cancelled the check. Just something to think about.

Come on. Let it go. Count your blessings they left when they did. Above all, don't mess with the kids future. The parents are already doing a good enough job if they are the type parents you described. She doesn't need any help from you. Why penalize her for the actions of her parents - after all, it's $100, chump change in the big scheme of things.
