Daddy Mommy Ball teams and Playing College Softball

by 93players » Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:06 pm

There sure are a lot of mommy daddy ball teams starting up in Central Texas at 14/16/18U. I have no problem with the kids who want to play rec ball with their friends and with parent coaches. It's fun and can improve your skills. But dont let anyone fool you. Trying to get recruited to a college from a parent coached select program is an uphill battle.

An 8th grader has a 3 year window to get the attention of college coaches. Your organization needs to play the best competition on the main fields of Ronald McDonald, JD Bancroft, and the other tournaments. You need to play ASA A or Premier and qualify.

Look at the track record of the team and organization if you have thoughts of playing in college. It needs to be done in 8th or 9th grade at the latest. There are a lot of good players who did not get the offers only because the coaches do not have the time to follow teams that come and go and those run by parents of the players.

Man, you are so right! Daddyball teams like the Texas Bombers, Texas Impact, Texas Storm, Houston Power, Texas Peppers, Texas Storm Elite, Texas Glory-Shelton, Texas Glory-Adkins, American Freedom, Texas Elite, OK Diamond Girls, Corona Angels-Tyson, etc., etc., etc. etec. have proven that non-parent coaches are the only way to go. Don't trust your daughter to one of these daddies who have no experience or history of helping other people's kids achieve dreams of playing softball in college. Seriously, don't risk your daugher's future with one of these daddyballers. Go with a non-parent coach! No, really, I mean it. . . . ROTFLMAO.

Your point is well taken. I agree with you. I have some softball friends who are playing 16/18u with a no name because he is a good teacher. He doesn't play in any tournaments to speak of, and won't leave the state or drive to DFW, but he is a good teacher. That and dollar will get you a Coke at McD's. These kids are going to be Juniors and I think the players on teams like this are going to find themselves playing for a fine JUCO in a garden spot like the Permian Basin

DD played on a non parent coached team last year.Couldnt have been happier with the way the year went. Now have a new team with all paid coaches no daughters. Couldnt be happier.
I understand your point, but any coach with a daughter on the team will eventually have to make a decision that he would not have had to make if he didnt have a daughter on the team.

Really? I know a kid going in to her junior year that just committed to a D1 school. Another Soph that just committed to a D1 school. Another soph who has offers from D1 schools. These must be the only three kids that didn't commit in the 8th grade and made it.
