The mentioned teams are great teams; some of them have an established organization with a lot of resources. However, if you are setting up your DD tryouts keep the following in mind. In most cases the top teams have their core set of girls that they are developing (yes, even at 10U or 12U). They usually add girls to complement the core group. New girls end up being 2nd / 3rd strings or playing the outfield regardless of their capability. The core girls will be coached consistently to address any deficiencies they may have and to improve their overall knowledge of the sport. Girls outside of the core set have to fight for playing time and will not be given the same attention. There are many contributing factors, such as coaches daughters, friends, siblings played/playing for the same organization, personal/organizational interests ($$), etc. Not different than any other sport/league?

For 12U, in addition to quality coaching you should consider travel distance to practice during the week, and overall commitment of time. All too often the decision is made based on the parent's ego to play for the top team, and less about their daughter having a positive experience. Doing homework in the backseat of a car at 9pm after practice probably doesn't measure up to being a positive experience to some 12 year olds.

if your DD makes it to one of the top teams make sure you understand why you as the parents have decided to join the team and what is the team's plan for your DD. More importantly make sure you're doing it because your child loves it and has a passion for the sport and not for the name on the front of the uniform. If their plan doesn't align with yours or your DD expectations, than you will find your DD passion (inner fire) gradually extinguish.

This is not an "always" correct statement. Perhaps in your DD's case this was true, however, on the Top 3 99 teams, I am aware of 4 "new" girls who have come in, kicked butt and have taken over 1st string positions. The best players play, those top organizations will put in those girls that play the position best. For you to insinuate that "new" girls will be relegated to 2nd/3rd string due to "friends/siblings/personal interests/money is just silly. Girls outside and inside "the core" (as you call it) have to fight for position at ALL times! You're kidding about "girls being relegated to the outfield regardless of their capability" .Are you saying outfielders have poor skills? From what I have seen, the outfielders are usually the fastest, speediest, best trackers and BIG hitters. Outfield/Infield - it's all key and important.

As for top team changing to firecrackers and you saying it the same coaches, same team... its not really true Top Team brought in a women coach Char Wilson who is a college coach to help them get away from the daddy ball after they continuely lost players .. I heard she will not be going with them for the change to firecrackers... I watched them play and she was great with those kids. And it goes unsaid that she was the only one that knew SOFTBALL and didnt yell at those kids. Such a shame she won't be going...maybe she will start her own team!! So I guess its back to daddy ball for Top Team/Firecrackers whatever the team name is now!
