by sftblldud » Mon Jul 11, 2011 6:47 pm

Softball Travelers, don't forget that the I-405 will close a 10 mile stretch near LAX this weekend. LA is expecting massive backups. Start looking at alternative directions for Sunday. I'm just sayin!!!

The media will certainly try to make it a major story, but it won't be one. There will be idiots willing to do whiny interviews etc, but only the clueless will be affected by the closure. On the whole, getting around we be fairly easy.

They all predicted disaster on the roads during the '84 Olympics, but it never materialized. Expect the same here.
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

But they already have the lead in headlines ready with "Traffic Watch 2011" and the freeway version of Doppler 7000 :D

The irony is that without all the hype they're creating, they might have a real story to cover this weekend. Now the story will be the non-calamity. They may even mention how savvy we Angelenos are, like they're shocked when people act with intelligence. Kind of like how we are amazed by how inane the local news programming can be.

For my part, leaving town Thursday thru Tuesday. Just to avoid the news coverage.

Really? Having only one exit shut down due to construction in Oxnard has made it a daily pain in the ass because everyone is using the same "fairly easy" routes to get around it.

I guess it could be okay if everyone in the area who doesn't need to be out stays home.

I had planned to check out Surf City in Huntington Beach but screw that. I won't venture outside my town this weekend.

Day one of "carmaggeddon" was a joke. I haven't seen the 5 fwy that empty on a Saturday in a long time.

See what happens when idiots stay off the road = no traffic.
