2011 miss softball canidates

Is this the same Katie Harrison who's father passed last week? Did he coach her on the Dreams? So sad if that is the case.

Next year she will be a middle of the order power hitter at an SEC school (Arkansas). She plays on an 18-2 Noblesville team and has done her best work behind the plate. Opponents do not run on her, yet she has picked off 10 baserunners that were not attempting to steal. Plus she has managed two Freshman pitchers beautifully.

Was she recruited by the previous coach at Arkansas, or Larabee, the new coach? It seems they're having some issues down there with the Larabee.

Hope things work out well for her.

This IS the same young lady who's father passed away last week. What an amazing display of focus and determination she is putting on the field right now. Her stats in the last 2 weeks are simply unbelieveable. Very disturbing posts on the Arkansas program, probably worth watching. Coach Larrabee has always been up-front and straightforward with me, very likeable.

I saw that the nominations have come out and some of them are good candidates like Whitney Arion, Katie Harrison and others but some others I can't believe! I don't know how this process works but it is wrong and needs to be fixed. I saw that Natalie Newell from Goshen was chosen from her district and couldn't believe it. This girl may be good I have never seen her play but I can not imagine she is better than some of the other girls in her district. She is going to a small NAIA school that is nothing! What about Jenna Simon going to Notre Dame or Andrea Filler going to Boston College or Ashley Burkhardt going to Purdue? I'm sure I am forgetting some others in this district as well. It baffles me that this girl would get nominated. Andrea Filler and Ashley Burkhardt have both won a state title and have been at the top of the state in battig average and home runs all year. Andrea Filler led the state in hitting as a junior and again was at the top as a senior. That's just batting not to mention her pitching. She has 15 plus wins and less than a 1.00 ERA. As you can see I would of voted for Andrea Filler as Miss Softball and she didn't even get NOMINATED!!! Something is wrong with that. Any of the 3 girls mentioned would of been a better choice than Newell. I don't see how the top hitter in the state for 2 years and one of the best pitchers in the state doesn't even get a NOMINATION ;) ! Absolutely unbelievable and the system needs changed!

Cougar,
You've never seen her play and your going to call her out?????? I don't think college size has anything to do with the Miss Softball award! The others mentioned are deserving also, but only one can win! Maybe your coach(or the girls coach) should have worked the system better! It's all politics, ill vote for you, you vote for me! But regardless of how it works, calling out a kid who the other coaches in the district think is deserving is classless!!!!

Agree 100%! Don't call out a kid, call out the system. The system is poor, at best, where a coach's lobbying efforts mean lots more than batting average. I saw some of the "brochures" that were passed out at the ICGSA meeting by some coaches touting individual players; some looked more like a Cabelas catalog than an information sheet. Who you play for and where you play often outweighs the actual performance, sad but true.

Wow!

Congratulations Cougars23 on making your first Hey Bucket post, one of the most classless ones that I've ever seen!

You're going to disparage a girl that you've never seen play? A free education at an NAIA school with a great softball program is nothing? Do you think that it might be possible that she selected that school because it was a great fit for her for many reasons beyond just softball?

Filler, Burkhardt and Simon are all fantastic softball players--as is Natalie Newell. You could make a very good case for any of them to represent this district as Miss Softball. All those girl's would tell you the same thing, they've been playing summer ball either with or against each other for many year's! I can however tell you that Natalie has had to do something throughout her four years of High School that the other's havn't and that is carry her team. Take Filler or Burkhardt of the Dwenger team and they still have the other along with a very strong supporting cast. Take Simon off the Penn team and they still have Hoffman, the pitching staff intact, along with a strong supporting cast. Take Natalie off of Goshen's team and you have drastically altered everything about them. Could any of these other girl's trade places with Natalie and carry a team for four years with the same success--maybe, maybe not, we'll never know. All I can tell you is that with nearly 1100 career strikeouts, God knows how many wins in four years, around 20 career homers, a boat-load of RBI's, a career batting average north of .400 etc.---she deserves much better than some first time poster, that has never seen her play, coming on here and spouting garbage about her!

All the best to all of these outstanding players and young ladies! I know that you'll be successful both on the field and in life beyond softball!

Absolutely unbelievable what a complete asshat you are. You couldn't have made your point without trashing a high school kid? Really?

Crawl back in your hole, and take a few of these...

I was trying to call out the system and not calling out Newell. I just thought that this was an example of how the system is bad. I'm sure Newell is a very good player and she obviously has to be since she is the one that got nominated. I was just trying to point out the fact that the system is a bad system and should be based on other things than just politics. No high school athletic award should be given out based on politics.
