The TDBFR has been updated. Just a few changes.

Memorial weekend will give us our next major look at all the teams.

Smash is a true 2nd year 12's team, and if you want to compete at nationals you better be a 2nd year team, as a majority of teams that play on Saturday and Championship Sunday at nationals are 2nd year kids. One year makes a world of difference. Smash has a good 12U coaching staff, "expert" that term is used loosely IMO.

I look at pre-game activities, I look at in & out if they have one, I look at how they motivate, how the girls react, I look at coaching during game and more importantly in between innings, I look at how COACHS react under pressure, LOTS of little things that a regular fan does not look for. Lots of good coaching and people that are doing it for the right reason but, expert is a strong word.

TENSHUN keep up the good work, I like reading your opinions on the 12's, I know one thing, they are getting bigger and stronger, when will it end is the scary thing.

Again, Expert is a strong word to use. An expert to me is someone who is in the top of his/her chosen profession. Its not to difficult to find the best coaching in NorCal, it usually follows suit with the top 18G programs, pretty self explanatory. Everybody else is just doing what they know best and trying to make it work.

To answer your question as to IMO a "expert" coach would be, Sue Enquist (master of motivation), Mike White (master of the pitching game), and Ehren Earleywine and even a Tim Walton (both expert coachs), and you cant leave out Candrea even though some people feel his management of his pitching staff is sub par, he must have done something right to have the success he has had in college and at the international level. Those are "experts" and get paid very well for being one...

I will just say this, being organized and looking crisp from the time you arrive at complex til the time you go home, tells me a lot about what goes on when no one's looking.

I dont want to discredit what the Smash coachs do, as they are good people, do it for the right reasons, and solid coachs for 12's no doubt.

Triplecrown, Thanks for the kind words.

I also look at games a lot closer than the average fan and am aware of the intricacies you mention. However in the case of my use of the word "expert", no need to dissect its meaning with such surgical precision. Words mean different things to different people. But rather than debate the meaning of expert, let's let the dictionary do the debating for us.

ex*pert (From Dictionary.com)
noun-a person who has special skill or knowledge in some particular field; specialist; authority:

adjective -possessing special skill or knowledge; trained by practice; skillful or skilled (often followed by in or at )

Expert is a relative term and there are a number of coaches who I consider experts in the Norcal area -yourself included. Not saying all these guys are ready to coach the National Team or give a tutorial to Candrea, but at the 12u level they do an admirable job.

So while I may call them experts, feel free to choose any adjective you want. What ever we call them won't make them any better or worse than they are. The proof is in the pudding.

Darn, way to be politically correct. I was hoping for a little debate. Very nice response though. Agree with both of you! :D

Anyone else noticing the 12u Lincoln Memorial Day Monday brackets seem a little off? Seems there are some 2 seeds that will make it into the gold bracket while there are other 2 seeds that will not make it.

Examples:

The most glaring example is Pool 10 which contains the Breeze 98 and TC Smash yet only the #1 seed gets to go to the Gold bracket.(Not being able to have 2 of the top 5 Norcal teams play in the same Monday Gold bracket is kind of silly. I would imagine either one would easily walk away with the Silver bracket.)

Pool 2 has the EC Hotshots and Valley Stompers but only 1 gets to go to the Gold bracket

Meanwhile Pools 1, 3, 5 and 7 all get #1 and #2 seeds in the gold bracket where the likely #2 seed will probably have an early exit(no disrespect to those teams).

The system does seem to work for Pool 6 which has the Red Grapes(shot out to Tenshun...haha) and Hype 98. Both those teams should be worthy enough to make it into to the Gold bracket.

Not saying whoever made the brackets didn't put in alot of work and maybe there are some teams that are flying under the radar that are ready to step up but a better bracket/pool system seems to be needed. Maybe something like all the #1 and #2 seeds go into the Gold or just all #1's go into Gold and all 2's and 3's go into the Silver and the rest go into Bronze or Red.

Commence Flameage...lol

That doesnt seem right. Hopefully they can fix it before than. They have enough time to make changes. But we will see.

seems strange only one of the two top teams can make it to the gold bracket but teams that arn't even ranked can make it to the gold by coming in 2nd seat.
