HS playoff predictions?

by amazing » Tue Apr 26, 2011 11:38 am

I have seen Hebron, Plano, Marcus, Keller and Guyer play. My guess is any of these teams could beat anyone they play on any given day.
I think Marcus, Guyer and Plano could make a run if they get going. They are talented, they are in the mix every year and they have solid, experienced coaching.
I am sure there are teams as good or better in other parts of the state that I have not seen play.
The teams that are havng fun and enjoying the current years HS experience seem to do best in the play offs.

Some of these same posters predicted nothing from Tomball last year, yet they made it to State. Woodlands does have a fantastic team, but they are not unbeatable. Tomball beat them 2-1 in fall ball. Any given day, the "unbeatable" #1 ranked teams can lose to a team that plays with alot of heart and desire. I have seen alot of heart from Tomball year in and year out. Even in years where they were #4 in district, they have gone deep in play-offs. They also have many D1 starters. I believe it's 6, with another committed to a quality D2 school and others with D1 offers that are being considered. Their whole line-up can hit and even deep into the bench, they have some awesome hitters. Of the 9 starters, 8 have gone yard this year, with several girls around the 10 HR mark (or more for one of the players) for the season. Good luck to both teams as we'd love to see Houston teams at State!

Tomball is very good, but they do not have the pitching that the Woodlands has. These are the 2 best teams in Houston that I have seen with one MAJOR difference. One school has a pitcher that has a scholarship to pitch in college and the other has a pitcher with a scholarship to play outfield in college. It is all about the pitching. Tomball has equal talent outside of the pitching I have no doubt.

O.K. So 17-4A vs. 18-4A. They Move the big 3 out (Montgomery, Brenham and Magnolia) and Huntsville and Willis are now the news? HUH? Huntsville is probably the only 18-4A to make it out of the first round.

(1)Huntsville vs. (4)Stratford
(2)Willis vs.(3)Brenham, game one Friday 7P @Texas A&M
(1)Montgomery vs. (4)Caney Creek
(2)Magnolia vs. (3)New Caney

The first round will lose at least one of the top ranked teams by virtue of the match up alone.
Willis and Brenham faced off earlier in the year and it was a slugfest. Might be the same again.

RexinTex:
As I stated in my previous post, the Woodlands does have a fantastic team. I wouldn’t want to call out any of your players as you have on our pitcher, so I won’t go into where a specific Tomball player will beat a specific Woodlands player in terms of talent. Again, it goes down to who will play with the most heart and want it more. I have seen Tomball’s pitching shut down the Woodlands in preseason. The game I previously mentioned was 2-1 (Tomball) with the only run scored off of a homerun, so I think the pitching for Tomball is there. If they played 10 games against each other, they may all have different results. I hope that the Woodlands makes it far in the play-offs, but stranger things have happened. Klein Oak High School had one of the best High School teams I have ever seen play, hands down a few years ago. Their pitching was definitely nationally recognized as well as their whole weapon of players. They were still eliminated early in play-offs that year by a Cy Fair team with a pitcher that was not nationally recognized. That is what is fun about predictions; the underdog may come out on top and the #1 ranked team rarely makes it through as #1 to the finish. Tomball and the Woodlands will not meet up until the final round if they both make it that far, I hope they both do. That would be quite a game. Tomball has the offense and the Woodlands has the pitching to get there. I don’t think the Woodlands offense compares to Tomball’s offense.

Tomball has to make it through Stony Point first, Last year they played three games and all those games went extra innings. Stony Point only lost one starter last year. That will be a good series to watch.
