Who Does Not Have Hotel Rooms In Midland

They host the 12U-18U Hall of Fame Qualifiers, I don't see any difference?
But I don't know everything that goes in to hosting a National tournament but it seems like OKC would be a good choice for the "official"location of all ASA Nationals not just the 18 gold Nationals.
Plenty of hotels and amenities. Other things to do there roight in the general are there is a golf course, a zoo, a couple of museums.
Just my opinion.

If they built the stadium for softball and if what you're saying is true about the number of teams etc, then it would seem a fairly good deal for both the city of OKC and ASA to cut a deal that would benefit every one.
The surrounding businesses would have a lot to gain and not much to lose to guarantee a summer full of visiting softball families.
Beginning with the WCWS, through HOF and finally Nats to me it's win-win.

But what the hell do I know?

Please do not take this wrong, but I do not see ASA all of a sudden moving the tournament from Midland, Tx to somewhere else. Just my guess.. As a Texas resident, I would prefer other areas of the state. For all of the teams coming from other states, go watch the movie Friday Night Light (Odessa Permian is only 15 miles from the ball fields). You are coming to the desert of Texas. You will see Tumbleweeds. I agree Midland is not the hotspot of Texas, not easy to get to, but it is where ASA 4U A Nationals will be held this year.

I have no clue what the costs are, but just another avenue. Also, pack a tent and camp out at the camp ground in town. I heard the daily rate at the park is $28 to have a site.

I agree that we can continue to gripe about ASA and its selection of Midland. We can also gripe that Midland did not plan properly on hotels (but who knew last year that gas would be over $4.00/gal and all the oil companies would be back in Midland/Odessa). We can gripe at oursleves for not thinking ahead and reserving hotel rooms in advance. Heck, we can find lots of things to gripe about.

The fact is 14 U A Nationals is in Midland. It may be smaller than in years past, but it is the National tournament.

Also, for those coming out of town and considering flying into Dallas and driving, also consider flying into El Paso. I saw the airfare was 100 cheaper to fly to El Paso (never figure that out) Also, look into flying into Lubbock as well as Austin ($150 cheaper flying from LAX to AUS versus Dallas).

Again, I am not excited to be going to Midland, but we are. It is where ASA has chosen to host the 2008 14U A Nationals. See you in Midland.

Thanks for the hotel websites, but of NO USE TO ANYONE. All hotels in Midland have been booked for months. The ONLY chance to get a room is to find a room that booked and didn't qualify. . . but since there is no housing coordinator for this event, you have call every single day to try to find that needle in a haystack.

Seems they may not have known oil was going to be $140 a barrel, but they absolutely knew that 80-plus teams would be in their fair city the week of July 27 through Aug. 3. Seems a well-organized effort would have blocked out about 1,500 rooms for those teams. But . . . they blocked 0 rooms instead . . . ASA has no one to blame but themselves . . .

Do you really think any 14 year old girl is going to want to camp out the whole week in 100 degree heat after playing softball

Camp Grounds Hey, the only reason that I know about the camp ground is some people are staying there. I had never even though about it. I know some folks are bringing RVs, but others are renting them. I know of some people camping out. It was just an option. Not one that I thought of. Just thinking outside the box. I am not defending Midland or ASA. I agree that ASA should have reserved 1500 rooms. As a Tournament Coordinator in the DFW area, I do not understand how this could be missed. It is beyond me. I am just throwing ideas out to help teams out that are looking for hotels.

Yup, last week... About $1600-$1800 for a furnished apt, with a 30 day minimum stay, great to share a 2BD with someone but horrible for families of 4+.

I do not think anyone is complaining that it is in Midland, nobody is bashing the town. Just that if you get a bid 2 years ago and did not thoroughly plan for over 100 teams to attend in your town, then both ASA and the city of Midland will get their share of criticism. If there is not 4-5 main hotels (of large capacity that could accomodate the teams, ie Hilton, Hyatt, Sheraton, etc... ) and you know that Motel 6 and Super 8 will be on your hotel list, then that says something about being able to host an event like this. Elsewhere in Texas would have been good, Houston, the DFW area, San Antonio...

In 2008, Nationals is in Midland, TX and you can show up or not, but it does not prevent the teams and families who may or may not be attending, from venting out and letting ther feelings known about where they are going and where they will be going in the future.

Only 44 teams entered so far. With a month to go I wonder how many more teams will sign up?

Annies Dad, seems like no one out there appreciates you trying to help them find rooms. They just keep whining and bitching about no rooms, it's to hot, Midland is the arm pit of Texas, to hard to get too, to expensive to fly into. Hell, let them sleep in their cars if they don't appreciate the help. Eveyone that planned on going to ASA nationals, knew that back in January. I understand that you have to qualify and sometimes you don't know if you qualify until a couple weeks before the nationals. You should have reserved your rooms back in January, if you qualified then your good to go, if you didn't qualify then cancel. [we did]. They are not going to switch cities for nationals, so either quit bitching and come play ball or stay home.
