No. There are safety features build into the cars. One of the ways to avoid a subject where you know you are wrong is to divert attention away from that subject by asking questions that are not at all related to the orginal subject. A dd in a car has nothing what so ever to do with a girl not having a mask on while pitching or playing the corners. So in that regards your question is idiotic to say the least. Grow up and be a responible parent with your child's safety in mind instead of just your "opinion."
So let me ask you , What safety features are built into a girl playing the corners or pitching without a mask on. Does she have air bags??? No. Does she have seat beats??? No. See how unrelated your question on a child in a car is. It has no bearing on the face mask issue.

The questions speak to child safety.
Riding in a car is much more dangerous than pitching. If you think seat belts and air bags are adequate protection, why are thousands of kids killed in car accidents every year?
While you don't take additional measures to adequately protect your family in a car, you somehow claim the authority to tell others how to best protect their kids.
Your argument is invalid.
Ladies, if a man tells you he will fix it, he will fix it. There is no reason to remind him about it every six months.

I believe it is called a glove. :P

I believe a post from the past indicated that you had .02 second to react from 30 feet on a hard line drive. How many kids can react that fast ????? Once again I'll ask the question, "why not wear a mask"????? Is is a macho thing ???

If you go back to the orginal post it is about facial injuries from not having a face mask on while pitching. Why do you keep avoiding the main issue with all this stuff about car accidents. Yes alot of deaths occur from them but that is not what this post is about. It is about "SOFTBALL" and protecting the kids from facial injuries. If you want to talk about car safety start another post. otherwise stay on the correct subject and quit tring to muddy the water with all the other comments.

DD's team went to the University of Houston vs. Texas A&M softball game tonight (won by Houston over the 22nd ranked Aggies by a score of 4-3). I found it a bit interesting that the starting pitcher for UH was...WEARING A MASK! Guess those D-1 college coaches do not see this as a weakness after all. Also, noticed some players wearing a mask on their batting helmets.

if your team is playing in a park with unprotected dugouts i suggest you find a nem place to play. the only reason they are unprotected is because teams continue to go play and allow it.

Based on many of the replies in this thread...unfortunately, it must be!

The rationale against wearing a mask never seems to make sense to me. She has a glove, she sits in a dugout and rides in a car without a helmet..... all of that is just great! It is impossible to protect our kids from each and every possible danger that life poses....not to mention it would border on insanity. The intent of this post doesn't seem to be to identify every possible threat in which we failed as parents to take every safety measure possible. I believe it was to illuminate situations occurring all too often that POSSIBLY could have been averted or prevented by the simple use of a readily accessible tool.

Each must choose their own path based on their own experiences.....My DD's will wear 'em!

Well said! I think this post has lost its focus. The op was to heighten awareness and more importantly to pray for this young lady. Now it has turned to semantics. Define the word often and anomaly. If it happened to my dd ( or anybody's for that matter) once is too often!

It's unfortunate that this occurs to players, but you can not mandate protective gear. Then it becomes a who's gear is the approved face mask? Is it rip it, is it rawling, is it schutt? Or does ASA come with a new testing system so they can put their stamp on it?

And when your kid gets hurt with an approved ASA mask do you sue the maker or ASA for approving it? or do you sue the bat maker for exciding the asa speed rating, etc...Really you can not mandate masks on the field because then you just open up everyone to lawsuits. Bottom line is it's a parent/player decision and for those who are ignorant (lack of knowledge) it is in their best interest to get knowledge.

So here I am sitting in a hotel room nursing my oldest DD after surgery yesterday. I know I am a bad parent as I believe what Spazs believes, my youngest does not wear a mask and, it is OUR choice that she doesn't. We too have only ever been at a field where it happened (HS).

I know, bad parent, but now my thoughts go to my older daughter and I wonder, how I could have prevented her falling while running. What protective gear should I have put her in? Do you realize kids fall all the time while running in softball and they get injuries that can cause them to never play again? Why are we not doing something about this? :o  8-)

My point is, that many kids fall or injure themselves while running far more often then they get hit in the head. Just think, they could get blood clots from their injuries and die. Probably about as often as the ball to the head injury.
