Coaches and Tryouts - who cares?

by howbouthat1 » Tue Apr 19, 2011 2:26 pm

How about coaches that try out- leave the kids hanging-say to wait and dont call- why cant there be some ethics and professionalism? dont want the kid- tell them! :x So many just want to say "Travelball"-- easy way out- just ignor-- hate that...

noted- however not my point- it is the coaches that say they WILL call with the times for tomorrow practice or friendly or WILL call for the arrangement for next week and then do not---falling under your SOP is better than telling the kid to EXPECT a call then stiffing them..

It is mandatory for all of our teams to give the players a call regardless of making it or not... The players put their everything in trying to make our teams we owe them the call... Some of those calls not fun but it's the right thing to do.

Agree. Coaches who don't communicate results are usually afraid to do so, they're not leaders, and fall within the 'coward' catagory. They've never been a manager either...in the real world... and shouldn't be managing your child. They simply don't know how to conduct an 'exit' interview.

Regardless of what the SOP is, players / parents should be notified. Does that mean to sit down and make 50+ phone calls, no. Most teams / organizations have websites, if not they should...eteamz is free to some extent. If a coach doesn't want to call or doesn't have the time to call, post the roster online. That should save the awkward phone call of having to explain why DD didn't make the team. But I've also seen coaches string players along because they are waiting for a commitment from another player. This allows them to pick up their fall back player if they don't get the one they really want. Cheesey, YES; but it does happen. The other issue is coaches asking for a commitment right then and there to tie a player up. Then either the team folds or stop all communication and DD is left high and dry without a team because they stopped going to other tryouts. It all happens. Parents need to keep eyes wide open and do their homework on organizations, teams and coaches. Whats the history of SOP.

Thank you- all I am saying is courtesy- parents can think whatever they think- but coasches that say we will call you about the friendly tomorrow and then NEVER CALL---8,9, 10:00 what time do we wake up the kid?- what happened? coaches that say lets get togeather next week and then act like they never told you they will call? whats up? Just be professional- JUST DO WHAT YOU SAID YOU WOULD DO! IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
