Pitchers - Wear your masks

Correct answer and the only rational response. You are the adult, she is the child, you make the rules for her until she is an adult.
Why do people keep clamoring for a third party to make their decisions for them? Nobody is stopping you from putting a mask on your child if you so choose.

Because, unfortunately, some people do not have the capacity to think logically for themselves and an injured kid is the end result. At some point the old "it takes a village to raise a child" comes into play because certain parents simply have no common sense!

Injuries from comebackers are minuscule in numbers, the sky is not falling.
More kids are hurt sliding into base. What is your solution for that?

Perhaps because with a batter the ball is being thrown at the player every pitch. What's next, are you going to compare a fielder to a catcher that wears a mask?

Why not?? You seem to want to compare a sprained ankle as being the same as getting hit by 120 mph ball off a bat in the face breaking all the facial bones and knocking out most of the teeth and oh yea brain trama also. As a parent I will and hope most will simiply say, " if you want to play the infield or pitch you wear a mask or you don't play.

No you cannot make them wear it, that is true. But you can say, " if you pitch for me or play the corners you will wear a mask or you find another team to play with."

First of all, sorry to here about the young lady getting hurt.I think the biggest problem is pitchers are not being taught to be in a fielding position when they finish. If your daughter is pitching and her pitching coach lets her finish with her glove behind here ,fire him or her.
My old coaching buddy use to drop a ball in a pitching machine aimed back at the pitcher when he caught the ball to work on her reaction time ,it was his daughter and she was one of the best in the country. Also work on spin as much as speed. When you get older very few pitchers can throw it by a great hitter.Fastball down the middle does not exist.
Also first and third ,get your gloves off the ground when the pitch is released, hands out front and elbows bent in a 90 degree angle ,easier to go down then up,this way you can protect your face.
Also I think sometimes pitchers in high school get moved up too quickly and are pitching to older stronger girls before they are ready.

Douche-it...you have a decent argument here except for the fact that your lazy fat azz hits the drive-thru at Mickey D's after every game and practice... and THAT my friend... puts your DD at much greater risk than any comebacker with or without a mask. That 350+ you're carrying around gives you little room to preach to any of us about health and welfare...

can't do it - so not being willing to regulate this sport into oblivion based on incomplete information is stupid?

Why not require kids to wear full catchers gear in the circle? and third and first annndd....It is the only way she will be safe - seriously a batted ball in the chest will kill you. Shouldn't it be required that they wear a chest protector? In fact shouldn't we get some legislation here? Outlaw these underdressed players. Throw those child abusing parents under the jail if they even think about putting DD in any danger.

You guys are putting to much thought into this, let's just put a net up that is made for a pitching machine... If it goes through the hole you get 1 run. Seriously, okay... dead ball.

Lets be honest, a ball in the face is a preventable injury... seen pitchers take balls all over the body, lucky none in the face. The easiest way to prevent the injury is putting a mask on them. Our team requires all infielders to wear face gear...why not be proactive and prevent one of the worse injuries that can happen to a player. I actually think it makes the player more aggressive knowing their face is protected and absolutely takes nothing away from the game or the nut sack it takes to play the corners in your batters face...wait, fast pitch is a girls sport.

Masks for corners? Pitchers? Everyone? Spectators?...its athletic competition, strength v. strength. No more two-a-days for H.S. football because kids drop dead each year in the spring? Not my decision to make, just sayin………Yeah, most injuries are preventable, oops my bad
