Best 12U Teams in NTX

by liveintex » Wed Apr 06, 2011 2:52 pm

Let's try to get this thread back on track since any discusssion about 96's or 97's serves no purpose here.

The best 98's in NTX are playing 14U at this time and will probably get back to their age group in the coming weeks. Teams like Fusion, Glory/Glory Allen, & Fireballs, may not have overwhelmingly great records this year in 14U, but I'm pretty sure that due to the level of competition they are playing against, once they get back to their age group they should do quite well. In fact, I would expect these 4 to fight for the top 3 at any tourney they all play in. They'll need that 14U experience since the top notch CA 12U teams are probably better than most 14U's in TX, regardless of whether they are NTX or STX.

Agreed 100%. In Ga you got the 98 Worth Cobras (were the 98 Ga. Impact last year) and the 98 Atlanta Vipers. Both teams are playing a strict 14A schedule this season to prepare for the SoCal teams. Ga. is lucky to have such a strong 14A group to get the 12A's ready of NATS.

We live just down the road from Bob Jones Park so we decided to check out some of the games this weekend since there were going to be some 12U teams in it. I would say that although the results from each team may not be the best, the "usual suspects" kept their name at the top of any 12U NTX list and one or two should perhaps be added.

Fusion - May be the best from top to bottom in the lineup. Their big catcher may be the best hitter around and I'm including 14U with that.

98 Glory - Didn't get to see them.

98 Glory Allen - Solid top to bottom, good hitters top to bottom.

99 Glory Blue - A good bunch of scrappy players. If you can handle their small ball you can beat them. Easier said than done.

98 Fireballs - Solid pitching, saw their tall first basemen make some really solid plays.

99 Dbat - Very good team, solid but they need that marquee win against a Fusion, Glory, or Fireballs to really stake a claim.

I agree with the assessment for each team for NT. Fusion is definitely the best team today. Still plenty of time for the others to catch up. I do have to say that my dd team who is one of the teams mentioned has played the 98 Texas Vortex team twice this season and have lost both games by a comfortable margin. They have a handful of talented players with a few they are carrying. For a new team I was very impressed with their speed and pitching. Hitting is a little weak though. The team plays well and appears to be well coached. Was surprised they did not fare well against fireballs as they took a beaten Sunday night. This team could give some 98 teams fits if they become consistent. One writer stated it perfect not sold yet but they have my attention. May not have enough talent to compete with this list on a consistent basis but worth a look. I know our coaches were impressed with them.

I agree with most of the previous comments. As expected the top level 12U teams represented themselves well this past weekend in Southlake. I will say that I heard fusion lost one of their pitchers and good hitters and didnt play quite as well as in past and is now posting for a player. Glory played very well and Fireballbs played well and scored a ton of runs before running out of gas against an older team in the semi final game on sunday. I dont think Vortex is ready to be included in this list of top teams although they did place 4th they had a pretty easy draw and didnt beat a top team to get there they played FB twice and were soundly beaten both times and didnt score a run either game. It will be interesting to see how fusion replaces their pitcher this close to qualifiers.

TrueTx are you saying your DD plays for one of the top team listed but you've lost to Vortex 98? If so what team?

I'm with Maverick, Vortex placed 4th but by no means are they at the level of those top 12U teams listed. They have no win(s) against any of the above mentioned teams. And they did take a pounding to FB 98, which wasnt even close. I did watch one Fusion game andTony has a very solid squad. Catcher does have the big bat. But pitching could be an issue, as they did lose one.

Are any of these teams coming down to Houston to play in the 6th annual money tournament?
Should be a real good representation of all the Texas talent!

98 Texas Vortex beat 99 Glory Blue twice. In looking at the tournament scores in the past to include this weekend. Fireballs beat Vortex 4-1 and 2-0 before getting blown away 9-0. Vortex beat 99 Glory Blue twice 9-4 in McKinney and 6-2 this weekend. Glory 99 Blue beat fireballs in McKinney 9-2. Vortex is defintelly not at the same calibar as Allen, Fusion or Glory 98 but not sure fireballs, 99 dbat or 99 glory are either as all of these teams are inconsistent. Regardless of what our views are the road to nationals will run through the big three. The rest of us are just along for the ride. The good thing is next summer nationals will run through 99 D-bat and Glory 99
