Recruiting for Travel Ball at Rec Games

by JustPlayTheGame » Wed Apr 06, 2011 10:22 am

Is there an ASA rule that prohibits a travel ball team rep from talking with a Rec player's parents about joining a travel ball team NEXT season?

NO. It's part of the game, hopefully the Parent/DD made the switch to TB. Don't ever get in the way of someones decision to make themselves better. The one that is being recruited can either say "No" or "Yes".

I Question the way the recruiter is doing it though. There are many ways to recruit someone, and with the power of the internet there are ways to get phone #'s, emails, etc... I myself would and have called the parent to recruit the kid. Always keep in on the down low. Unless that person had an agenda and wanted all to see and here(Dirtbag).

Seems to be for current year only, correct?

I would think TB coaches could easily avoid this rule, just talk to the player about coming out for a workout.

I agree with earlier sentiments. If the kid should be playing at a higher level, good coaches are working hard to get them to that next level.

I think if you read further down #14 covers the question about recruiting for fall.

If the Rec ball player attends a tryout then they would be ineligible for all stars. Page 20. For the good Rec ball player, it's the best part of their season. Why ruin it for them?

This is a no-brainer.....of course athletes with skill and desire SHOULD be playing in the most competitive environmment they can find.....Rec hurts/holds back good athletes on many different levels...if someone is upset that a coach is seeing something in a kid, it might simply be jealousy and ignorance of what is best for THAT kid.....
