Premier is it really worth it at 14U?

by Mr. Monday! » Thu Mar 24, 2011 3:41 pm

I have heard many things over the past month in regards to the way the tournament directors run a tournament. I take it that it has only been the side of a few who have had bad experiences. But it really has me thinking.....DD's team is contemplating weather to try and qualify for Premier or go to ASA Far West Nationals. They wanted to stay local this year. So at the 14U level is it Roseville or Huntington Beach? Any feedback would be appreciated!

Locally there are only 6 berths so if your team isn't one of the top 6 teams around you had better make plans to qualify in a different region. You have to remember the 96's will be back with their teams so the landscape on who the top teams are is going to change.

I actually heard very recently that Premier has not even confirmed fields for 14 division yet...anybody?
That will make the choice easier and the qualifying spots available even more valuable. ;)

It isnt going to be in HB for 14s. Those fields are designated for the older divisions.

The issue is where will they play 14s. One thing is becoming increasingly clear with 14u Premier (if they pull it off at all) is that it will not be the same experience as Nationals regardless if you go to Midland or Roseville. Premier 14s will be a patchwork event.

If you are not one of the 6 teams that can get a birth that is unfortunate. I would take "not the same experience" over 10 days Midland is going to make you stay in a crappy hotel for $140 a night. Midlands fields were this fluffy clay, horrible. Plus, you have to step over the parents that have passed out from the heat.

I cannot imagine that Premier could work hard enough to make their tournament as tough as the same experience as ASA Nationals in Midland. I do not care what fields, what town in SoCal they pick to hold the tournament, it is going to be a huge improvement.

It sounds like the best teams are picking Premier, so if you do go to Midland you will be playing the next group down.

It was unfortunate that ASA was taken over by greedy self serving factions that repeatedly hijack the ASA Nationals process to prop up their horrible travel and tourism situations.

Trust me, I know what lies in store in Midland, but the way things are going so far with Surf City, what makes anyone think Premier 14 will be anything like a Nationals, aside from the cost? They still do not have fields. Why is there any reason to believe that it will be any better than the Valentines Tourney with shower curtains as doors for filthy restrooms?

Im sorry, but the silence that emanates from the folks running this show is deafening.

That's the scariest part...where is the statement from Haning or Hay to quell the concerns that are growing and to answer the questions regarding the Surf City March Classic debacle?

14U parents may not be used to it. Anything Haning or Hay say publicly get's spun and used extensively, creating more headaches than it is worth.

Have been to many Nationals and believe me there will be many great teams at Midland from all over the country. Ya, Midland was the hottest I have been to. Thought I would never get back from the 3rd base coaching box to the dugout many times.

But the bottom line is the teams from around the country, and I have talked to many, know nothing of Premier. Premier is not proven yet and until it is the very good teams from around the country outside of SoCal will continue to go to ASA Nationals no matter where they are. Will be interesting to see how Premier is viewed after their tournament this year.

Like just another surf city event.
The elephant in the room is the mythical college exposure. Can't we have even just one tournament that is just about the girls playing to see who is the best in the country without worrying if our 8th and 9th graders will be "seen"

Amen!!
Stay thirsty, my friends
