I know a team that included a win vs a JV team in their record. Talk about padding your stats! Pretty much makes a mockery of the whole system. Hilarious and pathetic at the same time.

Newport Harbor?? Really??? I don't think they've even played any strong teams yet this year, & they haven't won a league game in years.......

I am the JV coach at Newport Harbor. Tony Qualin, the Head Coach for the Varsity, knows that this ranking is a joke. On the other hand, I challenge you all to name a tougher league in CIF SS this year. Marina, last year's champ? (Shelley, it really is a courtesy to the larger softball world for you to post the stats of your players.) Edison, are you crazy, a team that good every year despite Coach Kendra's lack of strategic ability and her bias against several quality players every year in favor of her nuggets ( that school with open enrollment gets a hog's share of talent each year which is why even their JV gets 25-0 wins against quality teams every year, tons of players); Los Alamitos, are you kidding, with genius Rob and the big pool of talent, that team is always a monster team, Fountain Valley, beating big teams this year, Huntington Beach, moving back into the Sunset League, with that catcher and those hitters and all that talent, and in last pace Newport Harbor, which, despite you ignorati, has a pretty good team and no seniors, Hattie Marshall of Irvine Sting 16u doing pretty well against the competition, and Bella Secaira at catcher who has to compete with the Sunset League catcher, Newport is a scrappy little team who couldn't even field a jv team last year, and they lost a tight one 1-0 against Ocean View yesterday, who is also a tough team. Newport is building and after it finishes the gauntlet this league season will be even tougher next year. Anyone else want to join the Sunset League and try to beat those teams? Sure, Newport played weak teams and got its 10-2 record, but now it has nothing to lose when it plays FV, Los Al, Edison, HB and Marina and it has the ability if those teams don't play hard to knock any one of them off. Sunset League is the only league that legitimately should have 5 berths to CIF playoffs, maybe even 6 if Harbor kicks some B. What other league has that many quality teams? Tell me. And if Newport hangs in there, wins some Sunset League games, and doesn't get mercied, maybe it is a tough team. We will see. But I don't think the Big 5 of the Sunset League want to take any chances with Newport. Check out how these teams do in the last tournament, Newport is back in Woodbridge and wants to test themselves. And I am having a fun time on JV's going 5-0, which is more wins than Harbor JVs have had in the last 10 years combined. Softball in the Sunset League is growing, getting momentum. That stupid ranking is completely full of baloney, but the fact that someone this year took notice is a sign of the general spike in quality of all hs softball in SoCal.

How many coaches actually participate in this poll? I think very few and some of them do it with a bias. This poll is meaningless unless most of the coaches participate.

chromo, you are doing yourself and your school a disservice by coming on a national board and taking potshots at all your league rivals.
Maybe NH is improving, but your varsity head coach needs to realize that getting his team into these weak sauce tournaments every preseason does not prepare them for their league games in one of the toughest conferences in Southern California.
Sure, it’s nice to have a glossy preseason record…until you look at the opponents: Los Amigos, Estancia, etc, etc….Last year I think you were 12-3 before league started, and after your 10 league games, presto, now your record was 12-13.
So best of luck in trying to build a program at NH, but try to remember the old saying: “Actions speak louder than words”.
