Keeping and posting high school stats

by 454Malibu » Thu Mar 24, 2011 3:13 pm

Putting this out for your thoughts! My Daughter has some college program interest as a Junior and a few schools are monitoring her High School season and then will watch this Summer. Our Head coach put up stats on Maxpreps for our first game, and then stopped. Several parents have told the Coach that this potentially hurts some of the girls on the team and have even offerred to do it for him. No change so far! Personally, I like the Coach and don't want to make waves! So, does this hurt the girls or should I just forget it and move on? I of course have my own stats and have provided them to the schools, but I keep thinking it would be better if it was posted independently or if somebody I am unaware of is interested in her.

In So Cal, it has been my experience and observation that most college coaches take any and all stats no matter the source with a huge amount of skepticism. Over the years...I have seen wide variations and interpretations in stats from a single game from both teams. Some of on the edge of ridiculous. You would wonder if they played in the same game together.

MaxPreps is not at fault...it is whomever is entering the information. Reader beware!!

HS stats, whether on maxpreps or not are NOT taken seriously by college coaches. Travel Ball achievements are high on the list. Grades as well. Maybe some HS play is considered if TB is not that big in you area, but you're certainly handicapped at that point.
I think, that I shall try to do the utmost to be new today

Keeping stats for our HS team. So far, I have not had one complaint about what they are. Everyone seems to think they are correct, so I guess I a doing something right.

Coaches that are serious about recruiting your kid should have some idea already what type of player you are. There are so many variables to hs ball that can inflate or deflate stats. I've seen teams that record stats like 8 under where every time a kid reached base it was a hit, or you could just play on a hs team that lacks the fundamentals of strategy and positioning. It can drive you nuts if you let it or you can just challenge your kid to be better and pick up her teammates. The bigger question is are the teachers and administrators at your kids school doing their job to prepare your kid for college, and if the answer is yes, then it's all good.

HS sports as a whole is a JOKE!!!  College coaches will not even bother with HS stats, it is there season right now and they need to focus on that, and that alone. Coaches don't need to bother themselves with HS stats. TB is where it is at. It is during the summer where coaches can get a good look at these Kids, how they interact with other kids, how they interact with there parents, how there parents interact with TB coaches and each other as well. :o :o

I would not look into HS stats that much. Most of your better HS talent will tend to start off slow(because of the slow pitching) then work themselves into better hitter later in the year. Then it is off to TB.

I can think of a couple of leagues that have top pitching on pretty much each of their teams. League play is actually pretty tough.

But other than that, you are so right. Adjusting to that slower hitting is a pain.

HS softball is the NECESSARY EVIL!!!

"You don't want to play, but you know you probably have to!"

There is a trend that is starting to develop where Committed and/or Signed players won't even play HS ball, because it is that much of a JOKE!!! :o :o
