Riverside police arrested a Little League coach Wednesday who they suspect sent lewd text messages to a teenage girl.

Anthony Ray Sedillo, 40, of Riverside, was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. His bail was set at $50,000.

Police got a call Monday that the girl had received lewd texts from Sedillo, who is a coach with the Pachappa Little League in Riverside, a police news release stated. The girl, who is 15, volunteers with the league.

After a two-day investigation, detectives arrested Sedillo for investigation of communicating with a minor with the intent to commit lewd acts.

Riverside police Sgt. Dan Warren, spokesman for the Police Department, said investigators have no knowledge of any previous illegal incidents involving Sedillo and minors.

Warren said Sedillo has been a coach with the Pachappa Little League for at least two years.

Before he began coaching Sedillo was put through a background check, including a fingerprint search, and nothing came back on him, Warren said.

E-mail messages to league President Kelly Durkee-Gronzo were not returned.

A number of recent cases have involved coaches reportedly having sexual relationships with minors.

In January, the coach of a Temecula girls softball team was arrested on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old team member.

The coach, Alex Flores, 39, awaits trial on that charge.

Last April, a former teacher and coach at Centennial High School in Corona was convicted of 21 counts of committing lewd acts with a child, battery and assault.

The coach, Richard Angulo, 36, was sentence to 150 years to life in state prison. His victims were 11 to 14 years old at the time of the molestations in the mid-1990s.

Another Corona coach, Jason Bills, resigned from his Santiago High School water polo coaching job in August 2009 after being arrested on suspicion of having sex with a 15-year-old.
I think, that I shall try to do the utmost to be new today
