Best Infield coach in So Cal

by softbalmom09 » Tue Mar 15, 2011 11:03 pm

A while back there was a posting for best infield coaches in or around So Cal. I :D have looked a little but can't seem to find the post. So I will ask the question again, who is the best infield coach in or around So Cal. If you can provide details as to why or resume that would be great or at very minimum link to website if available.

Thanks in advance

For my money, it is Howard Kobata. Unfortunately he appears to be in the process of moving out of state. http://www.softballskills.com/

Whether there will be anybody continuing with his style/program is uncertain.

Howard has also been filming an updated DVD series. Look for that in the near future.

I can tell you by personal experience that Jorge is one of the best out there for infield instruction. My DD has only been going to him for a short time since this 1st post but will not miss it now. Works really well with all the girls.

His methods are pretty outdated. His style of fielding location, in regards to body position, transfer, and release are slow by today's collegiate standards.
I know he has his followers that will defend him but his teaching will not make you as quick as others.

Jorge Araujo IMO is a great infield coach. My daughter has grown by leaps and bounds with Jorge's teachings. He is not only a coach but a great teacher of the infield game. Lots of reps and lots of individual attention.

If it wasn't for Jorge, he made DD transition to travel ball was much easier. She attended his clinics before the start of the tryout season, and was ready for the faster pace.
My other DD attends his clinics for 10u. He catches everthing and helps them make the adjustment in doing it correctly, quickly, with no wasted motion. He works on everything, from footwork, body position, throwing, just a great overall teacher.

Jorge has got our votes

Mike Stith at STC. Trains both my daughters and does a great job.

Another thing about Jorge's classes is he has 3 or 4 other guys helping out, plus 3 or 4 of his players/former players helping out.
So that allows the students to get an incredible amount of quality reps in the classes.
He has his players/former players mixed in participating in the drills as well, which really adds to the classes.

A comment that I hear over and over from parents of students is "My daughter loves to come to this class, she looks forward to it all week."
Really fast paced and positive, keeps all the girls involved.
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.
