I agree with Blok. I think what should be considered here is there's a threshold for what a consumer(teams) is willing to pay for a given a event and considering the venue. Instead of harping on what one venue continues in it's business practice(and it is a business) we should just be glad there are more tournaments at different locales that will sprout up.

300 ft fences is NOT fastpitch. 300 ft fences with artificial surface OF grass is a disaster.
There have been many people clamoring about the 300ft fences at McNair since last year. Steps are being taken to fix that problem. There are no for sure things, but I am hoping that real soon McNair will have 200 ft fences for any fastpitch tourneys held there.

Have played a gazillion games at too many different fields and only ONCE have we played at a place in SoCal that did NOT have a fence, (Best of the West), well it did but it was 350 in left and right and 500 to center. Although one girl did come close in left, that was a sight to be seen.. Now BOW, i will be willing to sacrifice the crappy fields for level of competition and coach turnout, for sure. A bomb is a bomb, but gappers should not be HR's.

DD played one BLD tourney in Manteca in late July, 120+ degrees on the field, brutal turf.....

The fields are usually really pretty to see and the indoor clubhouse is nice when it's 120 in Redding or Manteca but charging coaches and players to get in, artificial turf and no fences makes it a pretty big turn-off IMHO.

For those who are playing at the lower levels or alternative associations, I'm sure it's pretty cool but for high level ball - no thanks! Those artificial fields in Reno are no better but at least they don't have the horrendous costs and charges that BLD fields do!

I agree with most of the comments on this sounding board... I just think they shouldn't sell alcohol at non-adult sporting events such like BLD. One time last year during a 14U tournament, I can hear people getting belligerent later in the day... I was thinking "Really", you need to "drink" during a kid's game? I guess I was looking at the safety factor...

You wouldn't see alcohol being sold/served at a ASA tournament, you would only find it in the parking lots.

Your joking right? Harvard park in Irvine, Mile Square in Fountain Valley, Yorba Regional in Anaheim the list goes on and on. Maybe you can tell us here where the gazillion 200' fences are in So Cal cause there's not many.
