How do you get a bid to ASA Nationals when there hasn't been a qualifier yet? Is it Northern, southern ,eastern Nationals where they hand out bids?

I would check on which nationals it is! Southern, Eastern or whatever! They don't give bids to USA/ASA National Championships till that seasons(unless 10U has different rules, been a long time for me) or you won it the year before!! Indiana has been losing the # of bids the last few years! Last year only 3(or 4) teams from here got in! From what i hear will be less this year! Never heard of getting a bid in another state unless it was a regional or national qualifier.

From the ASA website:

Qualifying for ASA National Championships begin at the local level with league championships, state championships and eventually national qualifiers. Each year over 30,000 players qualify to compete in an ASA National Championship. Cities from across America annually bid for these celebrated events, largely because of the economic impact they will make on their communities.

You cannot qualify for Johnson City without winning your regional tounrament or a National Qualifier... the tournaments before those are berths to be in the National Qualifier tournaments... only 50-60 TOTAL teams go to ASA Nationals... and those are not determined until Nat'l Qualifiers start in late May and June..

Just thought I would share as I had a daughter who played in an ASA National Qualifier when she was 14 and they did not not win therefor were unable to play in the National Championships.. unlike NSA where every freaking tournament gets you a berth.

That's exactly wjat im talking about! They give out bids to Northern Nationals like NSA Nationals!! To play in the BIG Dance, you can't find out till summer!! You can "plan" to go, but you won't know till June!!

Looking In, as I "understand" it. Last year Indiana received 4 berths for 16U. Velocity accepted a bid, then opted to go to ASA North in Bowling Green instead. So Indiana had one unused berth. I have been told that the powers that be frowned on this and thus this year we only have 3.

I have no idea, whether any of that is true or not, other than the fact that Velocity had a berth and played in ASA North instead. That's just what I've been told.

ASA berths given to each state is tied to the number of total ASA registrations for that state. I think the number is 1 berth per 500 teams registered. (could be wrong). If Indiana is down a berth it is because the total team registrations are down.

Stratos,
You are correct, it's the number of registrations in each state! We are losing alot of rec leagues and they really pump up the #'s! All levels count in the total number of registrations.
