Your Squirrelness, while I do not share your view of the death penalty I do agree that keeping someone on death row is expensive. I do also agree that keeping someone incarcerated for a life term is even more expensive. Holding someone behind bars for life only places burden on the system which we all support. That includes the victoms. Once convicted beyond a doubt. Absolute proof, ie; DNA, Fingerprint, Videotape, etc. No reason to keep them here. Not fit for above ground existance. While this may seem harsh it is just my opinion. I understand and respect the views and opinions of everyone , but in this case as well as in any case of a premetitated crime I believe there should be no deals. Maximum penalty period. My .02

The cost of executing someone is considerably more than incarcerating them for life. The legal process that must be satisfied to execute a prisoner is extremely expensive. I don't have strong views either way - you could easily argue that life in prison is a harsher penalty, so I tend to support whichever option creates less of a burden for the taxpayers.

jtat32, you may be correct with those #'s. Unfortunitly our bleeding heart society has brought us to that point. It is sad when keeping someone behind bars for life is cheaper than a well placed bullet. In the end it is the kids that suffer the most. I coached for many years and absolutely love all the kids I have spent time with on the dirt . You are there to teach, guide and protect, to help them become the best they can be. It sickens me that anyone would violate the trust of these young ladies. But in the end without proper punishment the crimes will continue. Sad but true.

I dont believe punishment of any kind is a deterrent for those who commit these types of crimes. IMO we need to stop thinking in terms of punishment as a deterrent and think in terms of simply preventing them from ever being able to harm another child ever again.

I studied this issue in college and it is much more expensive to execute someone than life in prison as previously stated. It has nothing to do with bleeding heart society. Look in the news over the past 5 years.... how many people have been set free after serving 15+ years in prison for something they did not do. As we sat and listened to jurors and prosecutors swear on their mama's graves that they convicted the right person, DNA evidence comes out that proves otherwise, then those same people say... oooops, sorry. You are now free to go after spending 20years behind bars.

Now try doing that after the state has executed someone, and you know damn wel it has happened. Just get rid if the death penalty and save the sate of bankrupt California some darn money. I could care less about the execution part of the equation, I just hate seeing the money we spend to execute the scumballs that we never execute anyways. Just give them life with no parole and be done with them.

IMO it has everything to do with bleeding heart society. When you don't think that the guilty should not be executed or at least suffer the same as their victims, then that is bleeding heart. If you think that after a little girl was raped and the guilty should be treated humanely and if they are not then some kind of penalty should be handed out, that is bleeding heart.

I understand the locking someone up mistakenly concept but the judicial system is not perfect but it is the only one we have. If this happens, I think the people that made that mistake should also be accountable someway, from the jurors to the judge and they are not as far as I know but I could be wrong. If I am, then give me an example and I will concede. When I hear some innocent man set free, that is the last I hear. But that is just me.

DNA evidence comes out that proves otherwise

That's what I said. Once absolute proof is there, game over!

It is only expensive to exacute someone because we allow it to be. Punishment is not a deterent. Are you kidding me? Maybe the "You should be ashamed of yourself" road would work. Sorry if it offends all of you that believe every scum bag deserves to live because they are missunderstood or they have some bullsh*t issue that some doctor made up. Grow a set nancy!!
