Thats what we thought - some of my girls thought maybe the blue didnt hear the comment, the one about the 37 bucks. One of my parents got ejected - for a true but inappropriate comment - but it was said directly to the guy - to his face, through the backstop.

Maybe he didnt hear it because its pretty much common knowledge that mention $$ = gone.

Keith, that is so right. This same kid had made several base running mistakes in the last couple of tournaments and was chewed out very bad by her dad - she is in that very bad place of now being afraid she is going to make a mistake. Its something we talked about after the game, and we talked about it at practice this week. Its made a timid girl more timid. My job is to put some attitude back in her.

From my years of experience of umpiring my theory is if you dont see it dont call it. Dont guees and it gets you places if it happens like you explain it you dont have an out. when things happen so fast the tend to get jumbled and the other coach may have been ion the blues ear too that may have lead to the call. This is my opinion and my opinion only. See ya between the lines.

d19, I really dont like to bring up 'bad blue' issues because in the areas we play in, the average blue is quite good, the problem blues are very few and far between. I dont want when people read our stuff to think we are talking about a big problem - because its not. This issue was complicated because of the obs call, then the lbr rule while, in my opinion, the obs rule was still going on. Mike's paste of the example issue, was close to this one and helped. I just want to explain it to my kids without their eyes glazing over - so that if/when they see this, they know how to react.

The rule and the misapplication aside, it seems a fair amount of the confusion was caused by the coach coaching the obstruction instead of the play.
